NY Spring Cure: Week Eight - Throwing a Party

WooHoo! Jen64 is done! Don't be too jealous, and take a look at the finished bedroom.

Good Quote:

My only main task left to do is tackle the bedroom. I will have to wait till week nine to do that, then hopefully over Memorial Weekend I plan to have some friends over for brunch or dinner. This cure has been very productive, and it is such a great feeling to have a well organized apartment. - Lynne F

5-31--cure.jpgWelcome to the final stretch. I'm going to stand on the runway and wave you all in for a landing ;-). Dinner or drinks awaits you. Even if you take off again and fly a little further, join us all this next weekend.

This week is all about getting ready. I didn't plan too many specific things for the final week so that those finishing up could take advantage of a little extra time. The main thing is to close up your project (as much as you can), clean up and get yourself ready for guests of some sort...

Of course, preparing for guests can be a big job. Anytime we have guests over we always end up turning the house upside down and doing things that we'd not done in awhile or meant to do and hadn't gotten around to yet. All our small improvements happen this way.

Of course, you've already been working for a number of weeks, so the real challenge here is more in the stopping than starting.

I know that a number of you are working on BIG projects that won't stop this week. What I recommend to all of you, however, is that you clean up as best you can so that this week - if nothing else - is a breather. Inviting some friends over - keep it casual! - is still a good idea, and you may find yourself surprised at how interested and impressed your friends will be, even if you're not entirely done. Remember, most people don't spend this much time on their home!

Yeah, I'm really not going to finish. I will someday and continue to post in the group pool at Flickr. At least I stuck with it this long though!

I'm not going to be finished this week, but I feel really good about what I've done so far, and I have a really clear idea of what I need to do in order to have my apartment be what I want it to be. Much of what's left is arts & craftsy stuff - I need to make some pillows and a runner for my living room, I'm going to re-cover the stool in my bedroom, I have a TON of stuff that needs framing and hanging.

My biggest obstacles right now are finding and hanging shelves over my desk, and finding a dresser that I like. I've had the toughest time finding something that's not too modern, not too antique-y..... I'll know it when I see it, I guess!

I can't have my real party for a couple of weeks due to various factors, but I'm going to try to have a friend over for dinner on Sunday night.

I just posted some pics of the finished bathroom:

Giving strength this time.

Following the tearing apart of the bedroom closet to have the water heater put in and then painting it, I now have to 1) paint around all the little hardware that the storage system goes back up on; 2) wash the storage system shelving and poles; 3) put the storage system back in and move the other storage pieces back in; 4) put all my stuff back in, rotating seasonal clothes; 5) put the sliding closet doors back in. I've started chipping away at this over the week in the evenings, but I expect I'll have a lot still to do this weekend.

Painting this closet was a low-risk educational experience too. I put painter's tape over all the hardware rather than taking the hardware out, since I couldn't envision putting all that back in right and getting everything level and all. But, when I removed the painter's tape, it tore away some of the paint underneath and left somewhat rough edged here and there. I know not to do that again.

The other thing I really want to get done before this Cure ends is to at least select new blinds for the two bedroom windows. I'll be so happy if I can get that done.

Party? I'm just starting to think about that.

I'll be sad to see the Cure end.

My party is tonight and I have been multi-tasking like a madwoman! Last night I made one last grocery stop, spun a dj gig for a couple of hours, then came home and baked cupcakes (lemon-flavored with whole strawberries in the center, cream cheese frosting), finished my Amy Sedaris cheeseball, and even worked on a freelance graphic design project.

As for tonight, I still need to:
Bring the cupcakes to room temperature.
Garnish the deviled eggs.
Garnish the cheeseball.
Pop popcorn for Maybaskets (and put those together - I've got about 5 types of candy to go in them).
Set all of that up at various places in my living room & kitchen.
Set up bar/bellini station.
Plug in the all-Swedes ipod playlist.
Put on a pretty dress.

I finished my home improvement projects a week or two ago- I just need to do a fast sweep/wipe down of my apartment tonight before guests arrive. I have approximately 2 hours to do it all.

I am planning on taking photos, so check my flickr in a couple of days. :-)
Wish me luck!

I did everything so out of order that I had people over a few weeks back! (It went really well, but it took me three days to do all the dishes). I was in London last week and headed to Minneapolis next week with a jam-packed week in between, so I doubt I'll make much progress, I'm afraid. Still keeping up with the flowers when I'm in town, though!!

The tiny party was a success! If only I had managed to take photos of my guests....
