apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

The Fall Cure: Graduation!

Good Quotes from - teatrosnynj:

Now that my apartment is so pared down, I found that I really don't want anything else hanging around unless I'm using it! My outbox is FINALLY empty - I had a wardrobe that was waiting to be picked up and now with that gone I am SO enjoying my apartment! I am going to take pics to post b/c I still can't believe it.

5-4-curetrophy2.jpgCongratulations to the Cure Class of Fall '07! Eight weeks is a long time, so you all deserve a lot of credit for making real change happen in your life on whatever level you were able to stick with the Cure. Below is the most comprehensive list I could put together, and I know that it's incomplete, so help me out and add yourself and I'll complete it tomorrow. I'm also going to go through and add pics tomorrow, so point me if you want them included.

Without further ado, I present the Class of Fall '07 and announce the next Cure to start on Monday, March 3rd:

It's funny that my Cure pics made the site 4-5 times, yet I'm not on the list! :p

Will those of us that did the Green Cure (or other cities) get diplomas (or at least a graduation post), too? I would count myself as a graduate...

I didn't submit photos, but I was very much part of this cure too. Also, JonathanB, wende...I think you left many out.

Lots and lots--and if I'm on the list above--can I still get a diploma?
:)

Yay! The end is near. I wish the end were here. But it won't take much, not at all.

This is so exciting. I wish it weren't midnight so I could get started on those last little bits.

Pixie:

Thanks for the shout-out, but after four cures, perhaps while being allowed to participate, I've been retired from competition.

Wende however does deserve a special diploma....

While I did not participate in this Cure, I can attest to the power of clutter control and domestic order...

About four weeks ago, a leak form the AC unit caused buckling of parquet floors and a long series of maintenance visits, phone calls, baseboard replacement, painting appointments, and the disruption of a wide swath of useable floor space in my 485 sq ft apartment. While that was in chaos, so much else slid by the wayside.

Well, this week, all repairs complete and it triggered a whole flurry of activity.

I could literally hear my apartment breathe a sigh of relief, and my own sigh was not far behind.

Congratulations everyone on a job well done. I was constantly impressed and inspired by everyone's hard work. I was part of the Chicago group, but here's my Before/After set. Of course things still need to be done (my to-do list is down to only 19 things though - and that's a HUGE improvement!).

I finished the Cure too!
http://flickr.com/photos/opal/sets/72157601657033451/

The house got rave reviews from my in-laws when they came to our dinner party. It was great fun until we discovered the cat had injured himself and had a paw 2x the size of normal *groan*

The art did get hung on the wall in the dining room using the Armstrong Arrangement, but since our office is still a guest room, it's obscured again by our temp office. Photos eventually, I swear.

Is there going to be a separate graduation for those of us that were in the chicago group, or did I just not make the cut? I finished "for now", although my budget wouldn't let me finish in the way I had wanted to. My Grand Finale Slide Show is here:

Yay!

We had our party last night and it was a huge success. Of course, now the house is dirty all over again...

Thanks so much, all of you, for the support, suggestions, and the props. I'm delighted that my lil alcove was featured here (you oughta see how the bedroom turned out. Holy crap!).

Next time I hope to be back with a one room remedy for my ailing patio area.

Alana - thank you! And you are right, it does just "breathe". I had people over for the first time in a LONG time on Friday night and I got nothing but compliments. Plus it's just so relaxing to come home to.

I know I couldn't have done it without everyone's help, comments, suggestions, etc. What an awesome community!

J-fer Rose -
My Murphy bed works that same way, except the shelfs are differently configured. The details like how you repaired the trim next to that are so thankless in that once they're done they don't "sing", but when they're NOT done, they really gnaw at ones gnerves, don't they? Good job at making things like that go ahead and happen.

Thanks Alana! I didn't have an end of cure party but did lend my apartment to friends from out of town for the weekend with their new baby and they went on and on about how great everything looked and how comfortable it was to stay here. Made me feel nice.

Danger Dorge -
I absolutely love the Keep Calm and Carry On sign. That little crown makes me think it might have been used during WW II when London was being bombed.

Curtis - I'm pretty sure (too lazy to double-check at 4pm on a friday!) that it is a reproduction of a poster that WAS used during WWII :)

The Keep Calm poster WAS used in WWII England. Some back-story here: http://www.barterbooks.co.uk/bb/barterstaticpages.nsf/Web/StaticPages/GiftShop

Thank you for that, Danger Dorge. It's a great history--and to think the British never put it to use! I would have thought the bombing of London might have qualified as a "time of crises."

I had thought it sort of gimmacky--now that I know the real story, I'm tempted to order one for our family.

But actually, I came to ask everyone--where are the before and after flickr slideshows?
I'm dying to see them!

My slideshow is absent, alas, because my scanner is on the fritz for who knows how long (I take photos with film and then scan them into the computer. I know, I'm a dinosaur). But I did manage to get one "before and after" process story up onto the blog before the fritz.
