Well, somebody had to be the first.
We’re just a little sad it was funky-skunky Lisa Millard (restaurant designer from Berwick, PA.)
Why?
Because she has a sense of humor, remembers paint names, and (we suspect) is not above a little dumpster diving. Hear her take on the Design Star experience:

But mostly we’re bummed because, even as the first casualty of HGTV’s megahit Design Star, Lisa was very sweet and extremely gracious. (Well, that, and because we thought her artsy space was way better than the Sheherazade train wreck of Lisa’s competitors… and she pulled her space off single-handedly…)
Hopefully, she can parlay her early TV demise into tons of work the way Clay Aiken sold way more records than did Ruben Studdard.
Remember, each week we’ll be interviewing the latest fallen Star from the cast of Design Star. Look for .“Organic” Josh (Joshua Foss) coming up shortly.
And hear all about the show straight from the HGTV VP, Event Programming, James Bolosh, in the interview that kicked off the season of this HGTV ratings powerhouse exclusively for AT readers.

I didn't like her design at all. Sorry :)

Actually, I think she was set up. If you recall, in the first Design Star, the first casualty was the most eccentric designer. (Of course, that designer deserved it.) Lisa's deisgn was no better nor no worse than many other contestants. (A half pipe in a living room? That's not design; that's carpentry.) Each time I am sure that there will be one eccentric designer and each time, I'm willing to bet that he will be the first or second to go. Great smile, though. Remember that they are committed to a show for whoever wins and the public only votes on the last two.

I think the judges' criticism of her installation was about right. I was surprised at the contrast of what she did on the show to her restaurant design portfolio. It was underwhelming, but she did finish what she started.

I wasn't impressed with her installation, but I would have liked to see her get a second chance as she was one of the few with any originality. The creator of the 'harem' cushion area should have been given the boot,

I was shocked they kicked Lisa off first. I wasn't totally feeling her "room" (what was one supposed to do in that space, anyway?), but I liked its originality. I would have kicked off the dude who put the car door on the wall. Maybe LauraE's right, that it's a set up. ;)

I agree - the guy that stuck that single car door on the wall and the women who couldn't find a bar stool in Las Vegas should have been sent off together!

Skip- I'm with you. A car door on the wall & a few tacky pillows from some tacky store- don't a designer make.
BTW- The show is fixed. Trust me on this.

Yeah, most of the HGTV aesthetic is not one I personally share, I think most of it is "American suburban". Ick.
I absolutely loved the salmon before kitchen on the second challenge. Go you good thing Lisa, I know you will be successful in the real world.

Judgement. Judgement. Judgement. Her hair says, "I lack judgment."

You can still catch her every night on "Mama's Family." (Dead ringer for Vicki Lawrence)!
Oh, my 2 cents: liked her, the show is awful (dreadful!) and predictable and it's nearly impossible to care about any of them. Sparkle dude needs to go.

Several of them are pretty awful! The southern girl with the fountain in the kitchen? The lady that can't find bar stools in Las Vegas???!!! She also had bad hair and is a design beeyotch for no reason. The obnoxious guy who wears a hat. Sorry i don't know anyone's name yet...

LMAO @ greeps! So true! I also agree with labchick.

Yeah, a beeeyotch for no reason... we HATE those. WhereEVER they crop up...
And you all must be really insightful (or psychic), cuz I think in just two weeks (mostly of group challenges), you seem to have people's styles and strengths pretty much pegged.
Hey, right angle, care to spill the beans on the conspiracy you seem so certain of?

this strikes me as a case of the-comments-might-be-better-than-the-bloody-show...thanks gang...
in part i cringe at these design celeb things: i don't care how hot young cool cute whatever a designer is...or when the hip young beauties become poster kids for any creative field...
but maybe i'm just still bitterly cableless or tired (cuz i madly enjoy Project Runway, which seemed equally based on talent coolness, or hearing about it's lesser followers as much as anybody)!

ps: there i went talking out of my arse again.
it's good to see creatives on tv or become stars.

The second Lisa was eliminated I realized that "Design Star" is clearly not the show for me.

Thank you all for your support! The finale is coming up on September 16th at 9pm! You won't be able to miss me as I have a crazy outfit planned! Life is too serious, there is loads of time for serious but one needs to squeeze in some fun! Even though I am not in the top two be sure to vote for your favorite designer/enthusiast after this Sunday's show!
Much love!
