Naughty boys
need love too.
Part Bulldog from Frasier, part Anthony Maritino, the Mario Cantone character from Sex & the City (the wedding-producing, passionate Italian part), Robb Mariani from HGTV’s Design Star talked (quickly!) about his on-air antics, and explains why what didn’t make the cut just might have changed your mind about this truck-lovin’ Creative Design Consultant from Orlando, Florida.
We wondered from Challenge 1 whether Robb was a design firecracker or just a timebomb waiting to go off. While we’re still not entirely sure, we discovered Robb has much more of a sense of humor than in the bad-boy picture the show’s producers painted...
Maybe if the judges had seen a bit more of Robb’s softer side, he’d still be duking it out on the show.
What does Robb have in common with Rocky Balboa? What did a guy who wears a “Diesel Power” trucker’s cap do (or want to do) with the diamonds he won in Challenge 4? Why don’t sarcasm and editors mix? Who does he think is the granddaddy of design TV? Robb reveals all.
We get the impression that Robb’s ideas come faster than he is sometimes ready for, but that undoubtedly helped him in this show that tested even his tolerances of time… and he seems perpetually on fast forward.
We’ll miss the drama this di stijl-loving (the aesthetic movement, not the White Stripes album) diesel-powered designer brought to the cast. And we hope this fireplug of a designer keeps on truckin’. Maybe he’ll get his own show, anyhow. Something like "Pimp my Semi." Or at least a cameo on the next season of Ice Road Truckers.
But you can keep up with Robb on his myspace page, or his brand spankin' new web site, which like Neeraja's tiling job from Challenge 2, might not be quite finished yet.
And hear all about the show direct from the HGTV VP, Event Programming, James Bolosh, in the interview that kicked off the season of this HGTV ratings powerhouse exclusively for AT readers.

are you serious?
i'm sorry, but that guy is a jackass. he's like every woman's worst boyfriend. during the episode where he was paired with kim to renovate wayne newton's kitchen i swore that if he didn't get eliminated that day i would never watch Design Star or HGTV ever again.
thankfully, he was.

Seems like a great guy, if by that we mean part Bulldog from Frasier, part Anthony Maritino, the Mario Cantone character from Sex & the City (the wedding-producing, passionate Italian part), and truck-lovin’ Creative Design Consultant from Orlando, Florida.

I enjoyed Robb's personality and contributions on "Design Star", and felt that his on-air persona was due to editing. Every show needs a "bad guy" for ratings and to make up for the lackluster challenges.

What a jerk? He's a hack designer that can't work with anyone and no amount of editing could hide those facts. 'Creative Design Consultant'.....wow, how long did it take to come up with that job title!?

He said some not so nice things about Kim in his blog, and even made a slight jab at David from season 1. They shouldn't have asked Robb who should win. Of course he was gonna say his frat bro chest pounding buddy Todd. He went on and on about the man's phenomenal rooms on Design Star and how he's wonderful with color, blowing David out of the water. Todd, imo uses way too much of one color. His solo room was great, very unique. Living room......too much red. Final room.....too much blue and too much like his solo project.....terrible carpet, and poor space planning. I wonder if Robb will comment on how messed up Todd's final room was. Probably not. He seems to have symptoms of people who are bipolar. Just my observation.....could be wrong.

Okay, Change the f***ing date tag on this post already. It is Sept 11, 2010 and once again it is screwing with the RSS Feed by constantly putting this entry on top.
