apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

AT in The News? Actually, It Was Brandon, Patrick, Robert & Hillary

We didn't see the paper until last night and what a surprise it was! In the NYPost was a big spread on the Smallest Coolest Contest and four of the five finalists. In big, bright pictures, we got a chance to see Brandon and Patrick in the flesh (Brandon at ease in the mini loft and Patrick giving a celebratory thumbs up to the camera).

You can read it here: Size...Doesn't Matter (NOTE: the Post link is wierd. It will only show you a few sentences until you sign up. It's free, you just need to put in your name, etc... Try doing that and then the link should work fine.)

In true Post style, they translated the entire event into their own language with "expert" Linda O'Keeffe from Met Home "evaluating" each contestant in simple bullets and little mention of all the other contestants. Of particular interest, however, were the amounts of $$$'s that each spent on their apt, and the golden info from these seasoned pros, such as that Robert left boxes of chocolate outside his door on days when his renovation was really noisy so the neighbors wouldn't "evict" him.

Hey, press is press, we love it and love seeing readers in the paper.

Just don't tell the finalists (yet) that we have also recieved calls from MSNBC and HGTV for filming. We are supposed to have sent them an email about it yesterday.... MGR

Thanks for scanning, Maxwell! I found this wildly entertaining (though I was embarrassed to be reading a copy of the Post on the subway) and was glad to see a couple of owner photos.

I also thought it was hysterical that they had the Metropolitan Home editor commenting, given a couple of disparaging comments that a certain contestant's apartment was "too Metropolitan Home."

The photos weren't great, I do have to say.

The website doesn't seem to have any of the pix but one.

Aargh! I missed this since I ususally avoid the NY Post. I hope they mentioned and said nice things about Apartment Therapy!

Is that a Swiss shirt? No wonder I voted for him.

jimk, as maxwell said about the Post's method of getting storiess and repotying them and I said in the other thread

No other place to say this but congrats to Hillary, Robert, Brandon and Patrick for your (I assume) debut in the NY Post. I saw Hillary's apt first and I thought the NYP has done it again and ripped off a website (they rip off curbed and the craigslist housing forum - some of my posts have been used - on a regular basis) but then I saw Patrick's place . . .

So they did say that this competition was held by AT.com but just when you expected a quote from Maxwell they quoted their Met Home expert.

Fiona - I found that funny too

What happened to Paul? Did he not want to be in the article?

I think it's funny that the majority of the finalists are designers and architects of some sort, when there was such a hue and cry over one of the first entries, which was done by two architects. It takes creativity to cram yourself into a small apartment without sacrificing style, and it's not like architects aren't busy with their own clients and lives.

Apologies to all for the CHEESY "thumbs up" photo. NOT my idea, and I only did it once for the photographer, naively thinking, "Oh, THIS sooooooo won't be the shot they use..." Argh.
