AT Survey: Women's Pajama Habits 2008

2-26-pajama.jpgEach year we ask our readers to tell us a few personal tidbits so that the rest of us can feel a little more normal or our own weird nocturnal habits.

This one is about pajamas.

Do you wear them?

Does anyone wear them? or, like all those Calvin Klein models, do you sleep in next to nothing?

But really.

This is totally anonymous, so you can tell the truth.

See all our past results below...

PJ Bottoms and camisole top

Hmm. I used to sleep au natural - but I got older - and parts of my body got soft - a covering seems to be proper now.

But your options in the survey are limited... I like a cotton chemise - guess I could have gone with your tshirt option (top only) but I could NEVER sleep in a tshirt --- can't have anything around my neck!!

This survey always strikes me as slightly creepy and voyeuristic. And I never quite get the connection to apartment living or home health, exactly.

Yes, even on the men's version of the survey.

It really, really depends on the weather and heat/AC situation, don't you think?

yes, the ones who sleep in the buff either live in warmer climes than I or don't have to pay the heating bill :-))

The ones who sleep in the buff may also be sleeping next to a LIVING, BREATHING, FURNACE. Like I do.

"weird nocturnal habits" - What are you hoping to unearth? A confession that "Yes, I sleep in chainmail."

If I'm napping or sleeping alone I find that I bundle up in sweatpants, a sweatshirt, etc.
But on a regular night it's just undies, too much body heat.

I'm all over the map, depends on the weather and my mood. The only thing I wouldn't sleep in is just bottoms. That would be odd.

I'd love to see these results correlated with who has non-romantic housemates. While it's obviously possible to put on a robe to wander around the house (and presumably many of the buffies do so to avoid freezing to death in the bathroom in December), does the presence of others nearby make nudity feel too vulnerable?

other

i do panties & a cami. when i'm at my parents' or a friend's house, i'll do pj bottoms, but it drives me insane. i used to sleep in the buff, but my new cat likes to sleep under the covers & that would be too weird. :P

It really depends on how tired I am before going to bed and if I bothered to get into PJs of some sort before passing out.

Goodness, the second I get home, I'm in PJs. In fact, pretty much anytime I'm home at all, I'm in PJs, unless people are over and even then ...

At least I graduated from just undies and a tee ... and only then because one day after getting home from work and changing, my embarrassed boyfriend at the time remarked to his friends (who showed up unannounced while I was in my room) ... "Uh ... why doesn't Ridge have any pants on?"

As for actual bedtime, it depends on the mood/weather/company, etc.

I sleep naked, also having a companion whose body temperature goes up 20 degrees. On rare occasion I'll get PJ bottoms to keep my knees warm and ease my arthritis.

Y'all realize, that at the next AT party, when you introduce yourselves, we're gonna know that you sleep in your panties or less, right?

clickchick, try a tank top instead of a t-shirt. I'm surprised that wasn't an option, actually.

I live in PJ's, i dont change until the minute I have to leave for somewhere. Pj's are just daily clothes for me, kinda like Hugh Hefner.

Sorry, get your kix elsewhere. The non-voyeuristic version of this survey would have included options like nightgown and boyfriend's big shirt.

I know it's totally weird, but living in California my whole life and having woken up to so many earthquakes in the middle of the night, I am totally paranoid about sleeping in the buff. I can't help but picture myself being pulled out of rubble by burly firemen on the 6 o'clock news...and mooning the entire world!

I put "boxers", but what I actually sleep in is Old Navy PJ Bottoms. I have a vast collection, both flannel and plain cotton. No tee shirt. (My husband loves this!)

Having been a single parent who raised an opposite sex child and being the one responsible for leaping out of bed for any middle of the night crisis, I'm just not able to comfortably fall asleep in the buff. Depending on weather, mood, etc., my favorite sleeping attire includes a super sized T-shirt or cami and undies or boxers. Before my recent marriage and move to a slightly warmer climate, it would also include flannel jammies, which I now occasionally toss onto the bed just for effect - the eye rolls and groans are comical.

Mimogirl -- That's not all that paranoid! It was when we lived in SF that I stopped putting the day's clothes away at night because after responding to one fire-alarm evacuation in nightie and robe, I decided there was much to be said for being fully dressed whilst standing in the chill breeze of the Tenderloin.

(Plus, if your building is actually destroyed, do you want the clothes on your back to be jeans and a shirt, or a thin robe?)

I sometimes sleepwalk and a few times have managed to make it all the way outside--so sleeping in the buff just doesn't seem right. T shirt and sweats/boxers for me.

A lot of comments mention temperature as reason not to sleep in buff but I've read that you'll actually conserve heat better naked than in pajamas (it just doesn't feel that way those first few moments of sliding into cold sheets).

Anyway living in an upper floor my radiator is never on, the pipes and heat rising are plenty - dispite being someone who is 'always cold'

Lotsa prudes on here -- you don't have to answer the question if you don't want! I was curious, myself.
