Acorn: A Brooklyn Toy Shop

323 Atlantic Avenue (Smith & Hoyt)
Brooklyn, NY
718.522.3760

9-7-acorn1.jpgDesigned by fairies. We stumbled into Acorn last Christmas and felt like we were stepping back in time; back to a time when toys didn't need batteries and swords were the weapon of choice.

12-19-kidstreehouse2.jpgThis is hand crafted design at its best. Located at the western end of Atlantic avenue's great furniture shop strip, Acorn is a toy store for the crunchy set or for those who get into the romance of simpler pleasures (Please send pics of the shop if you have them!). As they say themselves:

Handcrafted toys inspiring the imagination and fostering the healthy development of the child.

You will find a wide assortment of clothing and toys as well as tops, tooth fairy pillows, and great wooden tree houses, blocks and more.

GO Brooklyn says: Even the design of the shop - toys are arranged on tree trunks sliced lengthwise - offers a rejuvenating tree-house ambiance.

Until Monday says: ...an intimate, welcoming gem of a toy shop, combines the modern and the magical, selling visually-striking toys.

Designed by fairies?

Are they hiring?

We go to Acorn to play or when we want to get a really special present. It's a wonderful store. They let my child play forever and there's no pressure to buy. The owners are terrific.

If you need the latest Groovy Girl or superhero doll you won't find it there. And sometimes I wish I would. Price wise it's up there. But I can usually find something that won't break the bank. If you're in the neighborhood definitely drop in.

This particular item is way overpriced here. I saw this particular toy in the kids section of abc carpet and home in Manhattan too which was also very costly. I am hoping that Acorn will not be outrageous like the store abc or Kido in the city. All of those items are cheaper to buy online from different sources. Why can't anyone make affordable wood toys? The montessori and waldorf methods should not be only for the upper class.
