apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Home Cinema DIY

13HOME.photoNot For the Faint of Heart. If you are thinking of putting in anything resembling a home theater with regards to the equipment and costs thereof, The Do-It-Yourself Cineplex from yesterday's Circuits is a great primer. With very little interest from her husband, who says, "TV is a waste of time" (and is right), and little more from her kids, Katie Hafner does it on her own with a budget of $3,000 (which everyone says is not enought). Her odd determination to do this horrible thing, and her excellent recording of prices involved make it a page turner. The first screening is such a hit, however, that she blows her subwoofer when a cannon fires in Master and Commander. MGR
