Kate Smith, of Sensational Color, was our third and final expert color panelist at last week's meetup Kate is a professional color consultant. She has that rare and utterly enigmatic job of determining the colors people are going to want to put in their homes three to five years from now....

Mark Chamberlain, artist and house painter extraordinaire, was our second presenter at last week's meetup and boy does he have a way with color! Whereas Gideon prefers a uniform, but subtly shifting palette, Mark goes for high contrast....
The room divider keeps coming up--in the form of a bookcase, a screen or a huge wonderful piece of fabric. Axel and Sylvia have a home that morphs into a gallery space at times. To achieve the smooth transition between living and entertaining, they use a curtain. It's a great way to visually close off a room, and if the fabric is heavy enough, it offers the added value of some sound attenuation as well.
Gideon Gelber, architect was our first presenter at last thursday's AT Offline. Gideon, in addition to being an incredibly talented designer, is a person obsessed with color. Gideon, through research, experience and a couple of long talks with the chemists at Benjamin Moore, knows the behavior of paint. His knowledge is impressive...

When I walked into the apartment, I was floored at what I saw literally hundreds of stick puppets spanning 70 years of Indonesian puppetry lined up on eight tiers alongside one wall of the living room.
When I looked at him with my dropped jaw, Paul said, I have a very tolerant wife. Over the years he has upgraded his collection, selling the less desirable ones and acquiring better quality puppets. Paul's wife affectionately refers to Paul's collection as "the Mercedes Benz we'll never own."

It's that time of year again, when we go crazy for color. For me, it's a time to think about stripes. LJ's effort, seen above, is a great example of a way to leave your mark on a room with a little painter's tape and some left over paint....

"This is my rebellion," says Matilda when referring to her apartment on the first floor of a 50's era apartment building in Brooklyn Heights. Other than college, Matilda has always lived in Brooklyn. Much of that time was spent in a brownstone in Cobble Hill.
