Spring is officially here and it has some of us thinking about our weight. And we've always thought space in our bathroom was too tight for a bathroom scale. But there is plenty of room for this one from Alessi.

Designed by Stefano Giovannoni in 2005, this stainless steel scale is so svelte that it could fit in almost any bathroom. Its overall height is only 1.5". And we love its look-right-past-it simplicity that won't take away from your bathroom's decor.
Available online from Alessi for $150.
Wow, this looks really nice.
I just can't imagine why I would ever need a bathroom scale.
In the last year I have had terrific success on the Weight Watchers diet. Not one for meetings, I'm an avid user of their website. But I have to say that knowing your weight is crucial. Once I got used to weighing myself weekly, i stopped dreading what it would read and instead I was excited about my progress or, on the flip side, became determined to correct some bad food habits.
Hmmmmm ... $150 for a scale this is probably marginally accurate at best. It's nice in the overdone stainless look of today's kitchens - but I'm not sold on it at all. Most scales of this type are small - my own scale is the same size, in a simple gloss white that looks great and best of all it does not require a battery. It's also marginally accurate (like most home scales) but I KNOW that, spent significantly less and it has lasted 10 years.
Once again Regina, I am so glad you aren't my personal shopper. zero research. zero thought.
I love it...but it would cost a dollar for every pound I am....ok....maybe less, but still, it's too pricey for most people.
Yes, it's not very high, but to me that isn't the problem with a bathroom scale taking up space (unless you have *really* low ceilings!). It's still the same footprint as an ordinary (and much more affordable) scale, as alex in dc pointed out.
I'm looking for a bathroom scale, for less than $150 (!) and I'm more concerned with "Yes, it will fit in the small space between the toilet and the tub, but will it rust or sustain other damage, if the shower splashes it?" Very flat and stainless steel is not really what I look for first in a scale that answers those concerns. Could we see more scales, and compare various types?
weight is a horrible way to measure health. i wasn't healthy until i GAINED weight. i think it's probably best people only step on these at the doctor's office.
it can be easy to forget muscle weighs more. i judge my health on how much energy i have, how often i get sick, how my jeans fit, looking in the mirror, & honestly, how often people say i look good.
i mostly say this b/c i weighed 95 pounds at one point. yeah, i was a size 0 & everything, but i wasn't healthy. i had to force myself to eat good food. i feel healthy at the 112 i'm at now.
also, my mom has neglected herself to where she was down to 80. i explained the bmi to her & she was shocked to see that 110 would be a healthy weght. she was like, but i'll look fat!
if you're totally overweight, loss can be a good thing, but don't focus on the number, please. focus on whether you can walk down the street & feel good.
Amen mg!
Obviously a person who is paying to join Weight Watchers is a person who does have weight to lose. God, mg, you are exactly the knee-jerk "well in my experience" person that makes contributing to blogs such a drag. And if you knew anything at all about Weight Watchers, it's about finding a healthy weight for you - not achieving some particular magical weight.
MG: Weight is one of the essential tools in measuring ones overall health. There are, of course, many other considerations to factor in. But you see, most people have exactly the opposite problem that you do. Most people really are way overweight, and are setting themselves up for all kinds of potential health problems. On to the OP....this scale is a beautiful thing design wise, but it would have to have accurate weight, % body fat, % water, etc. to be fully effective. Tanita scales may look a bit dated, but they work so well.
