A black bathroom brings with it some unexpected eyesores. The number one complaint we hear from folks wanting an all-black bathroom is that the toilet stands out unless it too is black. This is true and selection is slim when looking for a black bowl (there's a good one from Kohler after the jump...

I would not want to use an all black bathroom. Toilets are traditionally light colored in order to see &*^% before you sit on it.

I would hate an all-black bathroom, but I love the first picture up there...
p.s. I second the black toilet is gross thought -- we once stayed in a B&B with an identical dark brown toilet, and it was horrible. Especially with hard water...
p.s., we have a black rubber floor in our kitchen (with white and grey flecks) and it is wonderful! It is a product that deserves to be used more often

Is this a joke?

Cons about a black toilet (to me, it just looks nightclub-sleazy) include: you can't see pee on the seat. Why not just go with black cabinets and floor, and let the white porcelain stand out in all its sparkling beauty?

Black toilets are SO Scarface.

That thing looks like Darth Vader. While the thought of going in Darth's mouth tickles me, I'm sure the novelty would wear off :)

In my old house we bought just a black seat for the (white) toilet in the half bath downstairs. I think you can order a black seat for almost any toilet. It actually looked really classy. It also went well with the black chalkboard paint that we painted the walls with.

I have a tiny powder room in my new house...Above the chair rail is a painted oriental mural on a gold leaf back ground. The molding and door is cinnabar red with thin gold line. Below the rail it is solid matt black. All original to the 1927 build including plumbing and fixtures. The room is a jewel box.

yuck. i really like the idea of a black and white bathroom but there is something that just grosses me out about that black toilet. reminds me of the emerald green one my father-in-law chose for his home back in 1987, paired with brass, of course.

Bathroom fixtures are traditionally white so you can see dirt easily, in order to remove it. All that shows on black is soap and water spots.

Interesting idea, but I concur with sparklingly white toilet if you're putting together a black theme in the bathroom. This does kind of remind me of a "Designed to Sell" I saw the other day in which the designer (Lisa Laport?) painted the fireplace and moldings in a room black, including the window frames, as well as put in black curtains. I wonder if the owners were thinking, "Oh my god, she's gone insane" as they were smiling outwardly? Everything else she's done has been wonderful, but that day, I did think, "Maybe she is taking cold medication and that's why her design here is so loopy..."

Ooops, it was NOT Lisa on Designed to Sell, it was Tanya!

Looking for a black toilet? Check craigslist....while some like the color and of course everything seems to come full circle I see them available there all the time from people remodeling their early 80's bathrooms.
