Japanese Toilet Revealed

Copy of 2005_1_18_toilet.jpgGotta love the Net. This just in from Taco, who read an old post on Japanese toilets and found a needle in a haystack:

Search for "05-Toilet" on Google Images and the second result will be the Japanese-style toilet+sink combo.

This is from Donkeymon.net, an extremely articulate blogger who seems to be studying in Japan and studying Japan at the same time. (Thanks, Taco!) MGR

Hmmm...couldn't say anything about the -ahem- subject above because my comment was denied due to "questionable content". Protecting young minds everywhere...

Actually, I like those toilets. They save on water because what you use to wash your hands in the sink part goes down to be used in the toilet part...smart I think. They also have ones that have a seperate sink but the pipeline still runs from the sink to the toilet. Maybe their verion of the "water saver"? Good examples of REAL Japanese apartments (not all prettied up for a photoshoot) and bathrooms in a book called "Tokyo- A Certain Style"- check it out, it's good stuff.

And Japan is the one country I see that takes so much...time and technology their toilets! Has anyone every checked out their expos? It's crazy what people come up with to do on the can.

Dude, that's my toilet! Wow, look at how clean it used to be two years ago. Since this rather nostalgic picture was taken, I got a little plastic animal that screws onto the end of the little faucet there and swings its arms around when you flush and water runs through it. I also got a little plastic thing that looks like a flower and sits over the hole dispensing cleany-stuff into the bowl. And a little rack for extra toilet paper that goes in the corner and gets peed on if I'm too drunk. And I got a furry seat cover because it's winter. And a whiteboard so I can practice kanji while I am dispensing candybars. It's all about upgrades.

Additionally, the idea of my being articulate is absolutely preposterous. No one who could be labeled articulate would ever use the term "cleany-stuff."

Aloha, hey I have enjoyed this info on Japanese toilets. I have spent some time in Japan myself, painting. I want one of these toilets to put in our new house. Is there anyway you could hook me up with a source for one? Ellen

I live in Chinatown NYC--my apt. came with a similar toilet. It works, because the bathroom is exceedingly small. Would be up for the version with separate toilet and sink mentioned by Miya (above). Anyone know where to get one?

I live in Shanghai and the apt I just bought has them in prettier form, from Toto. They are for the maid's quarters, which are tiny.

I like the idea. But how do you use the sink? The toilet seat is in the way.
