New Vipp Color for 2009: Yellow Cab

1-vipp-yellow.jpg

Handmade in Denmark since 1939, Vipp pedal wastebaskets and trash cans are the cream of the bathroom wastebasket and accessories crop (at least we think so). These are the real deal — originally designed for doctors, they're built to last. Following up 2008's Limited Edition Color Purple Cut, the new Limited Edition color for 2009 is Yellow Cab...

Not quite orangey enough to qualify as Pantone's color of the year, Mimosa, Yellow Cab would make a great update to a black-and-white prewar bathroom!

Vipp can be purchased from The Conran Shop and unicahome.

those are some damn expensive garbage cans.
they're pretty.. but even if I won the lottery, I could not justify spending that much on something like that.

$250 for a 1 gallon garbage can and $319 for a 4 gallon garbage can...
...plus you have to buy plastic liners, etc - and not a single one is set up to help you sort your trash for recycling/composting/etc.

Kind of inappropriate to post something like this during a recession just because it's yellow? Perhaps it would be more appropriate to post something like this 12 gallon unit from Simplehuman that has separate sections for recyclables (even tho it's not newly-fashionable yellow)

Well, it would be tempting to say, it's so much more than a trash can but that is just what it is. Not just any old trash can, though. It's been produced since 1939 when it was made for the designer's wife's hairdresser's salon. And as you can buy spare parts for it, it's not unusual to find people (those are doctors and the like since it wasn't until 1995 they was first sold to the "general public") who own one that is more than 30 years old. It's hand assembled and one man can assemble six cans in an hour. It's true that it won't let you sort your trash. But then I don't think you'd want to sort the trash from your bath room - which is where it's mostly used. At least in this country.
