NYC Subway Tile Bathroom by Christoph Niemann

Subway Tiles are a very popular, basic choice for modern bathrooms. Illustrator Christoph Niemann has designed a New York City Subway tile pattern for his subway-obsessed sons. A mosaic map of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx wrap around the walls and floor of the bathroom...

To appreciate this bathroom even more, be certain to check out Niemann's previous post about his young sons' favorite obsession: The Boys and the Subway.

And in his own bathroom? An appropriation of Andy Warhol's appropriation of the Brillo Box!

It's GREAT! I'd be concerned that I'd get tired of something so powerful over time, but the concept is abstract enough and the colors fun enough that maybe that won't happen. Certainly cheerful!

Ha! A subway motif in a room that is SUPPOSED to be used for urination! Excellent!

P(too) -- too funny!

These are fun, but probably a real buzz-kill when it comes time to sell.

Mid-C Frank -

Here's my version of a subway bathroom, which I did in my old apartment. And the guy was so very much all about the view that he barely even noticed the bathroom. But he and his lawyer we were very excited that I showed him the photos on my cellphone camera at the closing, which I had taken at 2am the night before, when I finished changing the name of the "station" to his:

So... re-sale is not always such a nightmare with customized things, if you do it right.

I would love to see a hi-res version of this (with smaller tiles), and black tiles marking the express stops!

Wow, this is awesome. Bold seems appropriate in the bathroom, since you don't ever spend THAT much time there...

I like the concept, but it's kind of garish.

I really like this. It takes some more planning, but I think the results came out fantasic. Bright colors for little boys who love everything about the subway are not wrong! I loved to read the story about how well the boys knew the NYC subway system. I don't care for worrying about resale... I guess it makes a lot of sense but it makes for very rigid and bland choices and you don't get to have as much fun. This is a great story.
