I live in a rental blessed with a baby blue fiberglass bathtub. It matches the baby blue sink and baby blue toilet and the combination makes the bathroom feel less than Smurfy. So here’s a look at some painted clawfoot tubs that do the color palette proud.

gorgeous, love them....what fun.
I have two old tubs that need repainting, anyone have a good DIY instructions for taking this on?

Call The Painted Otter Restoration. Nathan reglazes tubs wonderfully with better results than if one were t odo it on one's own. Trust me, I learned the hard way ;)

any suggestions for the type of paint to use for tubs?

I repainted mine with beautiful results. I'd suggest asking for advice at your local paint store. I used an oil based primer and topped with a simple latex.

Total bathroom envy - but I notice that a matt paint looks much better than a gloss or semi-gloss, which I wouldn't have thought of before. Great pictures.

I like that first one w/ the stripes on a patch of blue shag, very cool. It depends on what you are after but a semi gloss to gloss finish on the outside can be very cool - especially if going for a modern look with vintage tubs.
As for the matching baby blue fixtures, flaunt them. :-)
I have the blue tub and sink, sadly not the toilet as it got replaced sometime back with a basic white one. The tub has some staining issues that I can't get rid of but shows up when dry - then again, the building is almost 50 YO.
