Isotonic Mattresses Now At DWR

2004_8_25_mattress.jpgA good night's sleep. We have had an isotonic mattress, you know the kind that NASA uses and which is made out of visco-elastic foam, for the last 5 years and swear by it. Although it is more expensive, it has changed the way we sleep and NEVER needs to be flipped to even out wear, nor does it ever show any "caving" from the weight of our body. It is also an attractive bed if you want to get a guest to stay over.....'nuff said.

The most famous maker, Tempur-Pedic, says this about the qualities of the visco-elastic foam:

The material has been engineered to react to your body through a very specific range of temperatures. It becomes softer in warmer areas, where your body is making the most contact with the surface, and remains firmer in cooler areas, where less body contact is being made.

The reason for this post, however, is that DWR's new Sonno Prima Mattress is made out of the same stuff with better workmanship around the covering material AND it is cheaper than Tempurpedic. DWR = $1,195 and Tempur = $1,500, which is what we spent five years ago. OHR/MGR

I bought a sommo in June when DWR had a sale. While I am VERY pleased with the comfort, I am even more impressed with the thickness. Measuring only 8inches tall is remarkable when most other mattresses are looming towards 16inches and they want you to buy a boxspring AND a pillowtop for comfort. (This combination results in nearly 3 feet of mattress!)
Sommo is great for modern platform beds.

We bought a Sommo about a year ago -- it is so worth the steep price tag, and is a dream to sleep on. At first it seems very rigid, without the spring you are used to in a traditional mattress, it is really comfortable. You do 'float' rather than sink. Never would go back.

We bought the memory foam mattress now available at Costo. $600 for a queen size, and I am very pleased with it. It is easier to roll over in than the Tempur-Pedic, which felt a little "dead" to me.
This isn't made as luxuriously as a Tempur-Pedic, but you won't give it another thought after you've set it up and slept on it.

You can return the mattress (thought I don't know how you'd get it back into a package) if you don't like it, according to Costco.

We also put the mattress topper version on our daughter's mattress, and she and her friends all love it. A great deal at around $120.
