Kara Weaves of Kerala

0427_kara02.jpg

0427_kara01.jpg We first found out about Kara Weaves when looking for window sheers and 100% cotton for the home, and we fell hard. With pieces for the bed, kitchen and bath plus gold-tinged window treatments, these are bright updates of classic home linens. And there's a story behind the beauty...

0427_kara03.jpgThe company is led by women who work with independent weavers in the Kerala handloom industry and rural tailors to create quality handmade fabrics for the home. Kara Weaves "hopes to bridge the gap between this traditional weaving art form and a contemporary lifestyle".

The fabrics in all pieces are either gossamer thin ecru cotton with ornamental threads woven into it or finely woven cotton towel material called thorthu, traditionally used as an ayurvedic body-wipe fabric. See all available hand towels (set of 3 for $25!), window coverings, and bed linens at Kara Weaves.

My favorite is the patterned bed linen in the mango motif. It appears light and airy just perfect for the summer. Or now, since we seemed to have skipped spring and jumped right into summer. The more I look at this the more I wants!

Went to the site. I love it all. Wish they made curtains with thorthu. They would be so welcoming.

MissMatlock, what do you like about the towels? They look thin and I'd be afraid to use them on my body. I like a towel that quickly absorbs the water that is also soft. But these are amazing looking.

Thanks for having featuring our towels here too!! I totally stand by the towels for how highly absorbent and light-weight they are. We have re-worked the traditional towel weaves of Kerala to an extra-soft feel and retaining all of its absorbent qualities. Plus the colors are super-fun too!!
Hope you'll shop with us to support our cause!

I bought my wife a bathrobe for mother's day. It is wonderfully crafted and surprisingly warm for being so lightweight. My wife loved it so much we're thinking about replacing our towels with Kerala's.

Rouncewell, the fabric is ultra absorbent and turns quite soft, especially after the first wash.
