NY Good Questions: Perfect Mother's Day Cashmere Throw?

4.21blanket.jpgDear AT,

I'd like to give my mom a cashmere throw for Mother's Day.

I've seen some beautiful ones on Garnet Hill and some deals over at Overstock.com.

I know from my own cashmere sweaters that the quality varies dramatically from shop to shop.

I guess I'm willing to spend around $250 for a great luxe gift.

How do I know what's the best cashmere quality for my money?

And Mom's favorite color is blue, so if you know a blue cashmere throw, all the better.

Thanks! Chris

You want a flour-ply, long fiber pashmina shawl or blanket for the longest lasting cashmere throw (easy to find via google search). The number of plies is the number of threads twisted together to create the yarn. The longer the the fiber, the stronger the thread -- ergo, the better the yarn (shorter fibers pill). Shop retailers who specilize in cashmere. (those of you purchasing sweaters -- avoid JCrew!!)

50" by 100" will run you about $250 to $300.
