4 Outdoor Details in One House — Indoors

We were just admiring the Wilton House by NYC interior designers Carrier and Company. The interiors put us at ease and we're thinking one reason for this is each room has a touch of the outdoors. It's simple stuff, like plants, cut flowers, fruits and natural wood...

Living Plants: The living room has live plants on the coffee table. A tall, slender orchid plant beside a low, round moss arrangement bring greenery and delicate beauty right into the center of the space.

Cut Flowers: The dining room brings the outdoors in with fresh cut flowers. The informal style of the arrangement makes it feel as if these were just brought in from the garden outside. The bouquet's large size brings a lot of leafy greenness to the heart of the table.

Fresh Fruit: Green apples are one of our favorites for fruit bowls and for snacking. These also bring a fresh green color to the interior and look great in that great big wooden bowl.

Natural Wood: The bedside table is a casually-placed section of tree trunk. Its worn and rounded edges suggest age and use and its natural finish brings a warm patina to the room.

These "outdoor" elements, when combined with the natural materials, neutrals, and greens used throughout the house, make for some extremely inviting, relaxing interiors. See the rest of Wilton House at the Carrier and Company website.

I like how that large painting is placed lower than usual in the bedroom photo. I think their "bedside table" might be a little bit too crooked to hold anything.

I love those caned cafe chairs. I try to do the outside look inside, it really does help to have a green thumb. Maybe you could give recommendations for hearty plants for people who are not super great at growing indoor plants. I do buy cut flowers from Farmers Market.

I would love to know where they got that trunk as a bedside table?

I like the neutralness of everything.
I do not like the bed I guess having a dog I see this as murder for a small dog's back jumping off or falling off in the middle of the night. Too many pillows too.

I do love the paintings in the room.
The dining space and furniture is charming and beautiful.

sfteri- I live in SF and have a patio that can only take hearty plants because of lack of sun and the forever falling leaves of the Euchalyptis leaves that smothers everything plus my lack of green thumb I have been successful with my Cymbidiums. They are beautiful and I cut them after they have bloomed and bring a stem inside that last for over a month.

You can get a tree stump like that just go to a local park after a storm, when the trees fall find the park maintenance crew and ask them for a stump. My tree fell out front I could of made about 20 of these.

But for something more practical that has a usable surface look at Viva Terra-

Thanks LoriSF... Ferry Building Farmers Market sells such beautiful Cymbidiums! They tell me how hardy they are but I usually tell them I'm afraid I might kill them. I think I'll take a little trip this weekend and give them a try. Thanks.

sfteri- take a nice drive out to half moon bay take the coast then the highway that cuts inland forget the name, its the hwy where all the nurseries are and there is one orchid place they grow the healthiest orchids and cymbidiums for half the price you would pay retail. Its a fun place to visit too, all the plants seems so happy you hate to take one away.

Marvelous bedroom theme in coffee brown color. Sometimes these color themed bedrooms really captures your eyes.

Very delightful elegant looking sitting area. Excellent colors used, looks quite pleasing to the eyes.
