Black also seems soothing and mellow - a perfectly suitable finish for a bedroom. We would lose the majority of those pillows on the bed, but otherwise we like this room very much. The white cove wrapping down from the ceiling helps a lot to lighten the weight of the black walls. What do you think? Could you go with black in any particular room of your home?

LOVE IT. My bedroom is in a similar color ---cracked pepper (behr) and adjoining bathroom in satin black suede (behr)
I also like the off center accents like the mirror and lamp

Question--Is that all ceiling painted white? I like the look and might want to consider not taking black up to the ceiling line if it is not. I really like this effect. Great room

From the title I though "Oh no!" but I actually really really like this!

I tried really dark grey and really, really liked it... it's very soothing... as for the texture, I think more than color, the lightning's the one that can either give you a flat wall or one with NASTY harsh shadows that could make silk look like cobblestone. Also, black in our culture has some feelings of sadness and struggle attached to it... maybe even fear, so I'd go for a like-black that has the same aesthetic effect without the bad connotations. It's a great choice unless you live where there's a lot of dust flying around and then your walls end up looking REALLY dirty even if it's just a very light coat... (which happened to me with a matte dark blue room that I loved and I had to keep touching up every few months). If it works for your space, yes, it's very glam and sexy... if it doesn't, it'll just look sad and even creepy. Be realistic and like I said, all about the lighting.

I had a really dark chocolate brown type color in my old bedroom. It still gave a dark comfortable feel to my place of rest and relaxation, without such a strong design limitation.
I feel black walls give you limited options for adding color to the room.
I was able to match the chocolate brown walls with a slightly lighter brown satin sheet set on my bed and light beige/tan pillows and rugs, along with decorative items such as artwork and vases.

I have always wanted to try painting a room black... we went with the darkest brown we could find for our bedroom and it is very soothing. I would think with black there are a lot of options for accent colors... to me it doesn't seem limiting.

I just painted an entire wall with the Black Chalkboard Paint in our office. The accent walls are a pale pea green. It looks amazing.
I was trying to channel the bedroom from 300 days of summer, but in our office.
The chalkboard wall will be used as our 'note pad', instead of having a thousand different pieces of paper with just a phone number written on them, we can now write on the wall. :)

Wow, I've definitely been on a dark room kick for the last couple of years. I just can't convince the husband yet...
I love darker rooms, black, grey, brown....check these out:

However, I do think it might be easier on the eyes if the ceiling in the pic is painted cream rather than that stark white...

I generally love the look of a black wall - but this makes me feel so depressed! I can't imagine waking up there. I feel like all those drab colours would slowly destroy my will to live.

I'm thinking of doing my kitchen black with maybe really white cupboards and throw in some teal and red accessories. But not sure what black to use.
I don't want it to be that grade school out of the paint tube black but a rich one. And what colour primer do I use?Maybe grey?
Black with daylight is totally gorgeous.

I thought I would like it because I have dark grey walls in my bedroom which I do love.
But after taking down my white linen drapes to send out for dry cleaning I have been staring at the black shade/blind which I use to keep light out behind the drapes on one windows and its so depressing to look at I can't wait for my drapes to return.
I would not object to black walls if I had a study or library type of room as long as there was natural daylight like Sunnydark said that is gorgeous.

I have always loved the idea of black walls (or a wall) in the bedroom, but haven't convinced the hubby either. Right now we live in a loft so it's not an issue.
I painted "my" wall of our downstairs office very dark gray (really just about black) and LOVE it! Also, I'm an editor so darker is better where I work =)

Remember to not paint it too dark like a cave! I love greys, navy's, purples and blacks in a bedroom. Make sure the proportions are right, otherwise you might start attracting bats into your abode.

Gorgeous. I had the wall behind my bed, my bathroom and my kitchen all painted black. I have hot pink, raspberry, and silver accents in my entire house so it looked really sexy. Then I thought I was going to sell so I went beige everywhere. I miss my glam black walls.
