apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Inspiration: Dude Design

Dude design, otherwise known as the man cave. What makes a home decidedly manly? Nothing per se. It certainly doesn’t make you more of a man to choose one design aesthetic over another, but there is such a thing as an unequivocally masculine look.

Here are a smattering of hunky rooms that say "a guy lives here."

It seems like it this example darker colors are more prominent than in more decidedly feminine rooms. I like the giant portrait. Makes me think of these giant decals, which now that I think about it...are quite masculine, aren't they?

Whereas this giant cat mural could really go both ways (feminine or masculine).

"Dude Design" is such a better phrase than "man cave." That phrase man cave really shivers my timbers for some reason.

I dig the green gray in #6.

I'm having lustful thoughts about #5 and 7...

But Thom Felicia's place hardly counts as a "Dude Design" - It's not the vulgarity of using an Emmy as a TP holder: It's the stack of coffee table books on the floor by the toilet...

"Sorry about the books, Dude..."

is there anyway to find out the specific paint color in picture 6 sort of looks like "looking glass" or "legendary gray"

Oh man, that bathroom in #4 is so off-putting in so many ways.

So-- judging by these-- to make a room masculine, you need dark browns & grays, leather, and dark unpainted wood. (And some kind of shiny metal gets you bonus points.)

Anyone know where to find a sofa like the one in #3? I love the low profile and it looks SUPER comfortable. Thanks!

The correct spelling is "per se," not "per say."
