Natural & Durable. We were excited to discover that two exclusive designs from Peace Industry Rugs are now available from Design Within Reach. While it was always possible to order various designs directly, we love that we'll be able to see them in person at a DWR Studio...
These unique rugs designed by Melina Raissina are felted by hand from 100 % sheep's wool and vegetable dyes in Iran. Because they are a thick felt, they will age well and require different care than most rugs. The high levels of lanolin help protect the rug from stains and wear. Check out AT:San Francisco post on Peace Industry Rugs for some consumer feedback. Do any New Yorkers have experience with these felted rugs? Is it best to avoid them if you have pets (We worry pet hair might become one with the rug)?
Fuller Rug is W 7' D 7' H .75" and priced at $2,020.
Butterfly Rug is W 8' D 10' H .75" and priced at $3,100.

We have felt rugs from Kyrgyzstan, and they have held up well -- if you have a 50 pound dog, it's best not to use the felt rug in the room where the dog likes to run around in circles. Otherwise, don't use a vacuum cleaner -- a carpet sweeper works great, and a periodic shake outside does the trick as well.
