Small Space Inspiration: Dormitory by Alberto Mozo

This dormitory interior by Chilean architect Alberto Mozo is about as spare as they come...

It looks like it was built on a strict budget (is that plywood) with equally strict space constraints. Much is accommodated in the simple design, though. The dorm room is modulated into "office", storage, and "bedroom" by a single sub-divided piece of millwork. There's a wall-mount lamp for reading in bed and is that a computer or TV screen built in at the foot of the bed?

Sure, the room is pretty bare bones, but it offers up some clues for designing small spaces that accommodate multiple uses with less instead of more. See more on the project at the architect's website.

I visited a dorm in a university in southwest China that was not unlike this. It also had washing machines and a terrace -- used for drying clothes. Four people shared the space.
