Swedish Bedrooms: A White Out

Swedish design blogger and Apartment Therapy reader, Pethra let us know about her entry into a design competition for Swedish TV-Channel 5. So far they've designed an outdoorsy room, designed for storage and styled a living room. This challenge was to style a bedroom. Pethra and her boyfriend Mikael chose to work on her mother's bedroom. (Wouldn't that be a great Mother's Day gift?) Pethra loves a white foundation, which allows her to change the accent colors with the season. She chose the pink and green as a nod to upcoming warmer weather, and painted the paintings over the bed to complement the textiles. Check out some of her competition in the contest and get Pethra's tips on using white!

Icelander Gua HlĂfarsdóttir loves an eclectic look and pairs modern designs with country French and Danish.

In Hanna's bedroom, the key was simplicity. She wanted it to be a place where one could relax and recharge.

There are two more contestants whose designs are on the Channel 5 site. The contest looks like it was sponsored by a company we're unfamiliar with called The Indian. Do you have a favorite?

Tips from Pethra on using white like a Swede

  • Use white as a foundation, which allows you to change the accessories based on your mood or the season

  • If you like a lot of white, be conscious of varing the textures in the home

  • Using different shades of white, for a cosy rather than clinical feeling!

Indiska is a pretty ubiquitous (in sweden anyway :o) interiors and clothing store that carries things from and inspired by India. I found quite a few nice things there when I was living in Sweden!
