Sleep & Storage! We've always been infatuated with BluDot's straight-forward storage/sleep option—the Modulicious Bed. Available in the four standard sizes, the primary feature of the Modulicious Bed is the abundant storage available. With SIX full extension drawers (three on the twin), underbed space is wasted no longer!...

Countdown to "bad feng shui" comment . . .
I really like the area under my bed to be empty, but, alas, it almost never is, because, as they say, that's the basement of urban dwellers. But I'm haunted by the curse of bad feng shui.
For my money I'd probably go with a cheaper Gothic Cabinet & Craft option but this is very nice.
Exactly, Elizabeth!
haven't they considered the fact that you have to move your bedside table to get to the back drawer?
the bed should come with some kind of coordinating bedside shelf or the drawers should pull out only in front.
As apartment-licious as this is, it just didn't work for my space (I love that my studio has an alcove for my bed, but it's so narrow that drawers on the side wouldn't be that easy to access). Gothic is custom-making me a very simple, white, clean-lined bed with drawers at the foot, shelves on the side, the works. With tax and delivery for several hundred dollars less than Bludot, sorry say.
I'm also kind of peturbed that emails to BluDot and Design Public (one of their outlets and a site that has access to several furniture designers) about getting something custom-made from them went unanswered. At least Gothic would take my order.
The bed arrives in 2 weeks. I'll let you know how it turns out!
I love this bed, especially in walnut. I just wish I had the cash right now to get it! I think I'd do cantilevered bedside tables for it.

I have the Nathalie bed from Flou, which solves the drawer issue from BluDot. While a touch on the pricey side- it is wonderful. It serves as my linen cabinet and off season clothing storage closet. The only warning I give with it- is to buy an approriately thin matress to allow the headboard to show its self off. (you can see the former post it about in my link above).

IKEA sells a bed platform with underbed storage. Actually they sell two. One has 2 little drawers on each side, and with the other the platform the mattress sits on is actually hinged and can be lifted up, so the volume of the whole unit can be used for storage. Both are fairly cheap - under $300 I believe.
They're also selling a new Malm headboard / storage unit, with drawers that slide out sideways. It looks fantastic, and since it's about a foot deep provides some space on top for a reading lamp, books or decorative objects. Comes in several different finishes, including good old clean white, which would coordinate fairly well with their storage bed bases. I can't recall the price on it at the moment - well under $200 I think.
I'd like to say I love this bed (and I do dig the concept of the bed itself), but like Scott's, my emails/phone calls to BluDot went unanswered as well. I had contacted them to get more information about their product line so I could blog about them and I got no response. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Crickets.

Thanks for the info on Blu Dot - I love the sleekness of the metal shelves combined with the wood but have a white Hollywood Regency-style headboard that's been with me forever, so I'd only do this if I could somehow get it without the headboard.
The setup with the six drawers is perfect for me though. Right now I have a wooden platform bed with two deep drawers on one side only, recessed under the bed somewhat and not the full depth of the bed - so I'm missing out on a lot of storage space! As for the nightstand thing, it's a no-brainer - use that drawer for less commonly used stuff and move the nightstand thing out of theway when you need to. Sounds like I'll be calling Gothic and showing them this pic!
Platform Storage Beds have become extremely popular, especially for those who have smaller bedrooms and need to utilize the space under their beds for storing clothes, blankets, etc. I actually own a discount online furniture business, http://www.ILikeFurniture.com , and storage beds are one of our biggest sellers. Most of them are European style RTA beds from manufacturers including, Prepac, South Shore, Azura, and more. More people now are investing in this style of bed because they are more cost-efficient, eliminating a box spring mattress, and it may also provide ample space, where they could eliminate having a dresser.
