With the arrival of a NEW catalog - from CB2 - we were particularly struck by their bed designs. Picking up on the pleasing heft of all steel construction (where Martha Stewart's Catalog left off), these beds offer remarkable price points and a clean modern look with a powder coated finish. Of course, we haven't made whoopie in one yet, which is the real test....

I've sat on the beds in the store and they seem to be constructed pretty well. They seem rather solid. A full on whoopie test was not possible. :) I didn't look underneath to see what the slat construction was like. The texture to the black baseline bed is rather rough, which you can't really tell from the photos. The city block bed is glossy and sleek. The bisect bed is decent enough, but I don't think the best wood quality, but for that price I'm not complaining. The only thing with that bed is I can see myself hitting those corners. Ouch they look sharp!!!!!
After being a huge West Elm fan for years -- loving their chocolate furniture, I switched to cb2.
Love everything I've bought. Great quality -so was West Elm.
I dont' like West Elm's current palatte
There's some really good buys at cb2 - check the sales online
love them
I ordered 3 glass candlesticks from CB2 and got them last week. But the other day one of them just snapped in two. Very delicate. I emailed CB2 and told them what happened. In less than 24 hours I got an email saying they would be happy to send me a new one and to be careful in disposing of the broken one. I emailed back to say thank you and that I was going to pass on to others what great customer service they provide. I'm sold on them now.
Have there been any rumors about CB2 opening in NYC? Or are they staying in Chicago for now? Love the city block bed, but no way am I going to buy a major piece of furniture sight unseen.
The Midnight Bed comes close to what I've been searching for forever. A plain bed with a plain flat headboard - harder to find than one would think! But I just don't like the checkerboard pattern, no matter how subtle.
MUJI makes the perfect plain headboard/bed. Very affordable too. Of course it's not available in the U.S. Sigh.
We just bought the CB Boulevard bed (King Sized $700) (http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=1011&f=4526&q=beds&fromLocation=Search&DIMID=400001&SearchPage=1) to replace our West Elm nightmare. After many rigorous rounds of testing the frame, we both agree that this frame passes the post-coital survival test. Plus if you are the least bit crafty, you could pop out the micro suede covered cushion and re-upholster it in something more to your liking. All in all we are pleased.
I just got the City Block bed, in black, a month ago. I love it! I did a ton of looking around at beds in different stores - Ikea, West Elm, all the usual suspects. This was absolutely the perfect thing for my apartment.
CB2's delivery guys brought in the pieces and set it all up in a very short time. Combined with a brand new Serta mattress, it's very comfortable. All I need now is some better bedding/linens!
We used to own a CB2 bed from the first shop in Chicago way back in the olde times of about three years ago. It was fine for about a year, and then one day one of the slats that made the platform part broke right under us. I think it was a fluke, as no other CB2 purchase has ever caused problems, but it was a little alarming when it happened.
I have a CB2 bed that is no longer available... the Elevation Bed. Bought it about 8 months ago. It is not only incredibly solid in it's construction, but I think part of the reason they must have discontinued it is that it was maybe too solid. The bed has a steel frame including slats, and it is so heavy that I cannot rearrange the furniture in my bedroom without someone to help me push it. None the less it is very comfortable, solidly constructed, and clearly going to last me forever.
Last year I upgraded from a 400 sq ft. studio to a 1200 sq ft. 2 bedroom and I needed a LOT of furniture. So far I have purchased the following from CB2: My dining room table, 2 living room chairs, my bed, decorative pillows, my dishes and various other decorative items. I have had to return or exchange several things, always with no trouble at all. I LOVE CB2's furniture and their customer service has always been fantastic. If I lived in the Chicago area I think I could have done even more damage than this, but probably it's a good thing that I don't. I have a long wish list still of things that I want to buy from them, just waiting for the funds, but I will be a loyal CB2 shopper for a long time.
I am hoping to get some feedback from loyal (or otherwise) CB2 shoppers about their clear, acrylic nesting tables (called 'Peekaboo' I think). I also wanted to check out Plexi-craft in NYC but they are not open during weekends. The price (in both places) is $199 for a set of three but Plexi-craft sells a version for $299 that is "thicker". Thanks in advance for any insight!
This is for the sake of those looking for CB2 quality feedback. I just got my new City Block bed in black, and it's a stunner. Ordered it on June 16, it was delivered on June 28. Assembled it by myself, which took about 45 minutes. The bed feels sturdy, but not bulky. Good value for the price, imho, especially with the delivery charge of just $60.
I'm looking to buy the silver city block bed. Looks great. Does anyone know if I'll need a box spring for my mattress with this one? Also, just for comparison sake, does anyone know of any other similar, thick metal type beds?
thanks!!
I stumbled across the City Block Bed after days of surfing the net trying to find the perfect metal bed. I finally found what I have been looking for in the City Block Bed!! To my dismay I called CB2 and the bed is discontinued. I can't imagine why the style is modern clean and simply perfect......also all the feedback I've read has been very positive.
Can someone tell me where I can find a similar one?
