(011 Bed)
De La Espada, the hip SoHo shop with the Spanish design pedigree, is one of the few stores that is resolutely modern and resolutely devoted to the natural finish, weight and feel of solid wood. Their designs are structural and unadorned by any carving, name branding or even curves. They are perfect large background pieces to be covered with amazing bedding and pillows. (Wide Bed)
Atlantico, their 'more vigorously contemporary oak furniture line' starts with lower prices at $1200. Prices for De La Espada's main line start at $4200 and all beds come in dark walnut or lighter oak.

So nice, so pricey.
I've been hovering over an expepensive De La Espada "Weekend" bed for a few years. When I finally decided to go for it, I found the price had risen 25% between 2003 and 2005! (yes, I take forever to make such decisions) They explained the cost of wood had gone up comsiderably. I'm also inclined to think furnitire companies are raising their prices as real estate increases, since our perception of affordable has become so distorted in recent years.
Equally fabulous, simple, and expensive...

BE CAREFUL WITH DE LA ESPADA.
FURNITURE IS LOVELY. PRICES ARE WHAT THEY ARE.
BIGGEST ISSUE IS CORPORATE CULTURE:
OUR TABLE CRACKED, AND THEY WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING TO FIX IT. THEY TOLD US SOMETIMES IT HAPPENS - FOR $5,000, ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE.
THEN OUR SIDEBOARD WAS 6 WEEKS LATE, WHEN WE ASKED TO SPEAK THE MANAGER, THEY TOLD US THERE IS NONE. WE ASKED TO SPEAK TO THE OWNER, THEY TOLD US TO GET THE NAME OFF THE WEBSITE.
BE VERY, VERY CAREFUL BEFORER GIVING THEM YOUR MONEY. THIS IS NOT A TRUSTED OUTFIT.
