Holy Cow! Into the furniture wars marches Europe By Net with big discounts on designer furniture and a brand spanking new catalog in our mailbox last night.
As we paged through we came upon the Emiselene Bed ($4400), which barely misses cheesy to become something we feel is really beautiful. All wood with a gently curving frame, the bed comes with a cushion roll at the head and lifting panels that reveal generous storage underneath. Check out the pics below.

Has to be a thin mattress- that's the only way you can lift the storage door.
That's how big my mattress is, it's a futon. WE've got a feather bed on top - what I'd like to know is how rela people should make up their beds to look so nice. I got the big platform bed for this sort of clean look, but instead everything looks bunchy, and dented. Is hiding all the blankets and pillows a matter of making design look nice? And what about room for storage in the daytime?
I love how beautifully modern this bed looks, as well as the rocking-crib look that seems so restful in a sweet kind of way, as well.

Rachel, futons are the WORST for looking bunchy and dented! After a decade of committed futonosity, I'm thinking seriously about getting a real mattress.
As far as I can tell, avoiding the bunchy and dented look also means:
--All sheets and blankets must be pulled flat and tucked in.
--Don't even think duvet unless you're committed to keeping the filling even. Traditional bedspreads have less fight in them.
--No pillows under the spread, no matter how your mother did it. All pillows must be shammed or suitable for unshammed display.
My favored method of hurling the linens hastily in place, then dropping a quilt and some accent pillows on top, is NOT a win.
Hmmm. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't think this bed actually missed cheesy. I think it hit it dead on, actually.
I'm with you Ruth, I think it landed pretty squarely on cheesy. But I do love the headroll and the gorgeously tucked and ironed bedding. Wende you are right, you have to forgo duvet, and pick up shams. It also means though ironing your bedding for the best look, shams don't stay nice unless you do. And thin accent blankets. In other words, completely unrealistic!
People iron sheets????
Jeffery, not only do people iron sheets, but people used to do it *routinely* as a normal part of housekeeping!
Then perma-press came out, and Peg Bracken told housewives not to waste their time.
If I spent as much time cleaning as I do reading about the history and philosophy of cleaning, my apt would be a miracle of hygiene.
I agree--this hit a bull's eye on cheesy. Hate it!

I love the Sirfo Goose Table by Zanotta that's sold in Europe by net! I've been drooling over it for some time. Unfortunately, even with their reduced prices, I cannot justify such a price for a side table.
