It's a gorgeous bed that will surely last a lifetime...

...but it seems that they need to rethink the nightstand so that the upper drawer will be usable?

I was just logging in to post the same comment. I saw this bed in the store the other day and loved it, but $2,000 is a grown up priced tag, and grown up bedrooms need nightstands...

I like the idea, but I'm afraid of stepping out of bed at night into an open drawer.

ikea has a bed with this same design, the drawers go all the way back to the headboard. the only nightstand option i could think of would be a night"shelf" which might actually look prety cool.

The Matera Storage Bed from DWR answers the nightstand question with a C-shaped table. You can see it in the Best Storage Beds 2009 post. Also, West Elm's Storage bed does the same thing...a C-shaped nightstand with a drawer.

Love the bed, dislike the nightstands. A good solution might be a slim shelf on each side of the bed for essentials like a place to put glasses, a small glass of water, etc.

Except for the price tag, this is exactly the bed I need!

Don't like it. Not remotely elegant. The proportions are really clunky and odd, and looks very heavy just sitting on the floor without any space underneath. The drawers look very shallow, even though the bed is high. The little pulls look hazardous. And cheap drawer slides that won't hold the drawers in snug, and likely rattle like hell when you're .. well, you know.

I designed a platform storage bed that looks like a nondescript plywood box, but which allows placement of end tables at the head of the bed, placement of the bed with one side against a wall, etc. without restricting access to any of the space under the bed. The bed, and the lid of the storage area, lift up with assistance from aircraft-quality gas springs set in a manner that the lid, with mattress and all bedding, will not slam when only 1-2" open, and requires only a finger to go up and down. I wish I had time to figure out how to post a photo. Most we sell are shipped flat-packed, and I designed them so that you can only put them together one way, there are only 20 philips head screws and a piano hinge to put it together, and it is a fraction of the cost of the storage bed in the posting. If you need a finish, the material is baltic birch or cabinet quality birch ply, so anything's possible. We can add a floor, add beadboard and paint it for a cottage look, etc. Best thing is that 100% of the space is useful. No drawers to consume space with sides, bottom and back. Email me for a photo...there are no space problems in the world, just unsolved challenges!

Good looking bed. FSC certified wood? What about the varnish, safe?

The more you learn the more demanding you get.

There are two types of storage bed. First, the one showed in the picture with drawers, however, it doesnt' provide as much storage as it shows. And the space by the night stand usually isn't a drawer. But the EQ3.com, Shuffle series solves the problem with the L Shape night stand, so you can still access to the first drawer. Here are some more sotrage bed.
Taylor by Sitcom, Shuffle by EQ3, serveral by Huppe Furniture from Canada. There is another cool one by Coaster

Some more by ESF.cc and Atlas by BH Furniture.

The second type of storage bed is lift up. You got Bossa and Dune by EQ3.com - it is not recommand for anyone with thick mattress, it just won't open. Great for comfortable and things that you don't use a lot, so you can tuck away these items under the bed. Good thing about it, you aren't limited to the space of the drawer. And you don't need any clearance on the side for the drawers to open and you kneel down.

Based on quality, the storage bed runs about $1200 to $1750.

Wow a lot of stuff on this site is majorly overpriced - I could find the knock off at a used store or major department store for at least a third of what you all will pay.

I 'second' the poster who bought and recommended the Gothic Cabinet Craft bed. We got this one:

It's solid, simple, cheap ($200-$300). And much sturdier than anything from IKEA. If we could afford to spend thousands on a bed we probably wouldn't need that much storage space!

Ugg.. Ugly ungainly box with a mattress on top. No thought given to usability (other people noted the nightstand issue).

And looking at the casegoods absolutely ZERO thought give to how the wood veneers match up.

Every time I look at R&B's website I'm amazed that quality products like Wegner and Herman Miller are sold alongside crap like this.

Other people did note the nightstand issue but several also noted ways they could get around it. Few people need more than small shelfs that could be hung on either side of the bed.
