Le Histoire: Round Bed

2004_8_13_round bed.jpgYou spin me right round, baby, right round.... I saw this bed and yelled across the room at my wife, "Hey, you want to get a round bed??" thinking that she would laugh and call me a pervert. No such luck. "Sure!" She said, "My aunt has one. They're really great to sleep on." So it goes. I grew up East Coast, she West Coast. Perhaps this is not just a gimmick.

The Histoire bed is an Italian wonder. It comes with the built in cabinetry on the back that includes drawers, glass shelves and a television stand, and it rotates electrically. Only $3,500 at Spacify. I was about to put it on the wish list, but then she said that round sheets were impossible to find.... MGR

Have one that I inherited from the folks, as conservative as they are now, my parents were pretty groovy back in the day. They are comfortable, especially for couples, but sheets are hard to find. I believe there is a company out of California that makes sheets, as well as one or two in the U.K. Not a whole lot of choice in sheets though, usually satin, plain white cotton, or rubber. Unfortunately had to put the bed in storage when I moved to NYC, the apartments here just aren't made for 7ft. round beds.....

I have a couch that makes into around bed. have re..covered it once and am looking for a mattress to fit over it as well as sheets and other bedding to go with ..for a very dramatic/romantic comfortable bed in my new addition. I love this couch/bed and do not want to part with it. but over 20 years it needs some updating..plus it would be in the center of my new bedroom. Any ideas or companies that can help would be greatly appreciated

Round mattresses are a common item in the Southwest United States. Many hotel and motel chains make these available as an incentive for people to stay, Ceasar's in Las Vegas has had round mattresses for years. Our firm manufactures round, heart shapped, antique (generally smaller than normal), RV, boat, and any other speciality mattress. We are 49 years young. Linens are available from several sources. I have a round bed to sell. It's the size of a queen sized bed, which sits on a 6 inch raised platform. It has this huge headboard with two shelves, and a lamp on each side. I've been looking all over the internet for prices on them so I know how much to sell it for but the only ones I can find are custom made. It's too big for my new apartment, so I have to sell it. Anyone wanna make an offer? (760)321-9995. Leave a message if I'm not home.

I work for a 100% nonprofit organization called Special Spaces,Inc. In quick summary, our org. gives children w/ life-threatening illnesses the bedrooms of their dreams. Since most children that are ill are isolated to their homes or in hospitals, they end up spending so much of their time in their bedrooms we try and provide these children with a place they can escape or be distracted. We interview the children and then find a way to make their dreams a reality. We are a small scale version of extreme Home Makeover. We do everything on sitr in @ 8 hours.
How does this have anything to do w/ round beds? Well, we need one ASAP. We have a critically ill child who has requested a "genie" room. We want to give her a genie bottle bed. We have a design, we just desperately need a round bed and sheets. We will make her a comforter set. Even if someone could just donate the mattress, we have a contractor who says he thinks he can build the bed frame. We can provide a tax reciept and before and after photos if anyone would be interested in helping. Please e-mail me if anyone could lend a hand. Thank you,

Hope this helps some ppl out there looking for a round bed. It's about 1800.

I bought my round bed from ikea for 700 - it's significantly cheaper than any other I've found - they do not offer it online, so you'll have to get to a store to get one - in addition, they do sell 1 fitted sheet for the bed for 30 earth dollars - just plain cotton, nothing fancy - also, the bed itself is cheaper because it is actually 4 seperate 'pie pieces' that are attached together - when I sleep on it, I can't tell ....

can't tell how old this thread is... I have a round bed... I have found that super king size fitted sheets do ok for the base.... you just tuck in the corners.... easy peasy...

Not sure when the last person actually posted on here but my friend and I saw a roundbed and now we both want one. Just this past weekend in Atlanta we decided to go to the IKEA store that just reciently opened. They have the round beds there the base and the mattress set was about $800 and you could also purchase the sheet set, comforter and the throw pillows they had on there for like $200 or so I think. Let me tell you I sat on that bed pretty much begged my friend to buy one. Though neither of us bought one, yet, it was very comfortable and hey if you can't find the sheets for it just tuck them under. This bed actually had a down feather comforter on it, square with throw pillows all tossed and gathered in the center it was great looking. So if anyone is looking for a good quality one thats comfortable $800 will get it at any IKEA store.

3 choices for round beds today.

1) The one listed above, pricey at 3,500 but for those with bigger budgets and needing the bells/whistles, can't be matched overall.

2)The hefner round bed at www.pimpit.com (go to furniture, then beds.) Comes in any solid color and is a nice suede supposidly, also has a nice rounded headboard and is king size, check it out!

3)Ikea, a round bed combo for about 800, I have to go to the ikea store to check it out, it's a new item, no headboard though, but a good deal at 800, I'll have to see how it feels like in person.

That's pretty much it, I've searched all over and now I have to choose between (2) and (3).

Good luck to all!

One comment on the Spacify round bed (pictured), according to the documentation it actually uses ordinary sheets and NOT "rounded" ones. And it also can rotate manually or electronically (obviously electronically is gonna cost you extra). The nightstand and TV table are also not included in the cost. As pictured this bed is about $10,000.

Well I just bought a round bed at an auction, and this is no ordinary bed I quickly found out. Well there is actually a pretty cool story behind it. It actually came from the old Biltmore house in Atlanta. It was in the penthouse suite and the guy who bought it was like really rich. Well I guess to cut to the chase #1 I need sheets, and #2 it would be really helpfull if anyone could help me find anymore info on it... Thanx!

Anybody that custom makes mattresses should be able to do that. Call them all until you find one that will do it for a good price. I started with the yellow pages under matress.

We've had a round bed since 1978 and wouldn't trade it for the world! It originally came from Ortho and had a foam mattress which wasn't very comfortable, so we had a local mattress company make a new inner spring mattress to our specifications. I can't believe it was only $250, but that was in the early 80's. I've always made sheets for it since they were hard to find or very expensive. I just select king size flat sheets and sew a casing, then use elastic. Same thing for the bed skirt. Use a king size and cut it down the middle to fit and pin it to the bottom. To make the sheets fit better, I bought a set of waterbed sheet holders for a snug fit. Works great!

My fiance' and I just drove 7 hours to pick up our new round bed from Ikea! We LOVE it! It is Surprisingly very comfortable! I think with taz we paid just under $920 for it and then bought the fitted sheets for like $20... Great deal! The box spring is in 4 pieces but the mattress pad is 1 piece... bring a truck! Hope this helps!

One more note... Ikea doesn't deliver really, so you may have to go get it if it's out of town so be VERY SURE they have them in stock... we had to deal with that and I'm glad we did! They had 13 and sold out in 1 week so we had to wait another week. Call the morning of and have them hold it!!!

Hi - wesman here - just a follow-up since someone specifically asked for my help ....

I don't mind that the ikea bed is broken into 4 pieces - I can't tell, however, I've never been finicky about mattresses (I know some people who are particular about the feel of their matress, who can't sleep on light mattresses or this one's too firm, bla bla bla - before I bought this bed, I was sleeping on the floor) so your mileage may vary

you can get bridal satin shits online at this site:

http://www.bedrizer.com/bridalsatinsh.htm

The most productive google search I did was along the lines of

satin sheets 7' round bed

and I came up with a couple sites

the bed is more than big enough for 2 people to sleep comfortably - I've had 7 people 'active' in the bed with no problems .... well some problems, but nothing related to the bed

good luck and enjoy

I once had a round bed. I babysat for it as a teemager. It was 85 inches in diameter and it had a blue plush hood with mirror tiles and a black light and an am/fm 8 track stereo in the hood. It also had two "nightstands" attached. I LOVED that bed, but being a stupid kid, I sold it. I have been looking to replace it ever since. It was big enough that I had two of my friends over for a sleep over and we all slept comfortabley. I slept with my stereo and alarm clock right there on the mattress with me and I still had to search for the alarm in the morning. This message is twofold, to answer the question "is it big enough?" and two, I MISS MY ROUND BED!!" If anyone knows where to find something similar to what I discribed, give me a holler. Thanks to all and have am amazing Christmas.

Hi there,
My name is Dave. I saw your posting as I was browsing for round beds. It so happens that my grandmother has left her condo of umpteen years to move to a retirement community. My mother is handling the estate sale, but i have been promised her 8ft round bed with custom sheets and comforter. My mom says the bed is in near perfect condition and looks new. My grandmother was a neat freak and was 4ft 10in maybe 100 lbs. Little wear and tear I could imagine. I have not seen the bed in more than twenty five years, but I remember it was fury as my mom varified. I will be going to Toronto Canada to fetch this treasure on Saturday the 28th Jan 06. I live in Bethesda Maryland. I have storage set up, but truly need money more than this bed. I just finalized my divorce in Dec and with that comes lawyer fees. Let me know if you are interested and we can chat some more. Also, there is a complete fuzzy bedroom set that I can get as well.

I have a queen size round bed to sell. It's not completely round, more like an oval. It has a very large curved headboard with dual lamps. There are small round lights built into the footboard as well, but they are missing. The mattress sits on a metal frame.

The headboard, two sides and footboard are completely covered in grey colored real genuine suede. Suede is in great condition. This bed was $12,000 when new in the 1980's. Very high end and well built. The mattress is stained and a small spring is popping out. You will likely want to have a new mattress made.

I will sell for $2,500 USD. Pickup only in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Photos available.

I own a custom made leather round bed. It is fantastic. It didn't cost me that much either. Had it for over 3 months and it was the best 3 months for me and my gf. I recommend everyone who is looking for some bedroom passion to own one.

Hello,

I bought a round bed at bova furniture (under $2000) and it's great. You can fold 1/3 of the bed and it kind of changes to sofa. Here is the link from bova and you have to just scroll for it. It is called Zero bed and it's very comfy (it's in our guest bedroom)http://www.bovafurniture.com/bedrooms.htm (color I have)
and here is yet another link with black bed when folded. http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/zfurniture_1905_25476584

i have been trying to get a king waterbed with a mirrored canopy but in nyc it is very hard. i have tried e bay and others and in searching came across tnc waterbeds based in florida. they carry round beds to die for with mirrors overhead and mirrored headboards. they are awesome!!! very pricey though. thought this could be of help to someone as they also have round sheets they sell. happy shopping!!!

going to do you people a favor that keep asking for round beds.

the ikea bed is called the SULTAN SANDANE. i am a 6' tall man, this bed was very comfortable for me when i laid down on it in the store.

this is the web address.

http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=12&langId=-1&catalogId=10103&productId=73374

the 4 bed pieces are $180.25 each (times 4) plus the mattress pad for $149 = $870.

by the way if someone wants to repay the favor please let me know if you find a good discount sheet outlet to buy sheets for a round bed like this (210cm or 82 5/8" diameter). the ones ive seen have either been "custom" made (read: EXPENSIVE) or have been far too feminine - flowers and crap. i am a bachelor male seeking something more progressive and modern; espresso/black round comforter, ivory/cream colored round sheet set (satin, sateen, whatever, but some decent thread count), and a colored mattress pad (unsure what color, but i don't want a boring white ikea mattress pad). if you found something interesting that matches my description please email chris_hitt@hotmail.com

thanks

I was just in Ikea this weekend - the round bed is awesome. I'm considering ordering one but will look around some more - just in case I find another with more "bells & whistles" & at a reasonable price. In the meantime, if anyone in the MD, DC or VA area have one for sale - I'd be more than happy to consider purchasing it. Feel free to email me at mstimona@yahoo.com.

I have a 8' round water bed that I have really enjoyed but must sell it because of moving to a smaller place. Sheets are not that hard to find(I just saw some when enter 'round waterbed' in google), or sew some together. A king sized comforter fits real nice.
The bed I have for sale is all dark brown(kinda marbeled with light brown also) upholstered vinyl(rounded, padded top of frame&headboard(about 8" in diameter) - and pedastal is vinyled). The matress has a few patches in it which have never leaked. ( a new mattress can be purchased for $170.) The liner is home made, works just fine. probably about $40 for a new one. Heater is in great shape. The frame is easily put together with 10 straight pieces, when joined it looks seamless. kinda octaganol(decaganol?). anyway I'd sell it for 300. plus shipping. write me at pdwizard@toast.net . Paul
I saw a brand new one for $1500.

ROUND BED WANTED :) I've been looking for a round bed for some time now. Im almost to the point where Im going to build one myself as its been over a year looking & I just can't bring myself to shell out a good chunk of my savings to get one. I looked at the IKEA round bed, but would much prefer to buy one with a used box spring & get a new top mattress for it than sleep on foam padding. Anyone who has a round bed to sell, please call/email me at (323) 868-7078/wired_by_sound_76@hotmail.com. Cheers!

just thought i'd throw my own request in, only i want a round waterbed or the plans to build one. i believe i can make myself one if i could just find some decent plans. thanks.

back again. couldn't afford the waterbed i found (8 footer for about $2k), but i was wandering around the city where a lot of used and salvage places are and found a round box spring set (2 halves). it wasn't something anyone was interested in plus from moving it back and forth throwing it around it had kind of come apart (just needs to be nailed back together on the bottom). only paid $25 for it so i can forget about the waterbed for now and play with this.

i'm thinking the boxspring would be the hardest thing to find. i can make at least a simple round platform for it, and if nothing else look for a larger piece of foam to cut in a circle for the mattress. maybe even look into how big a papasan chair pad can be gotten (like a pillowtop mattress). i'll figure out something.

Hi all,
I just managed to convince my husband to let us buy a round bed. I'm going with the ikea one. I think it looks pretty cool! And it's cheap. I'm looking for ideas to spice it up. Thinking of sewing a nice gold/wine satin sheets and a cover on the ikea comforter myself to match my room design. And I'm also thinking of nets hanging around the bed from the ceiling. Lastly I'm thinking of getting a nice leather headbord nailed to the wall or something. I'm still thinking... Any nice ideas are welcome pls. Or even any pics 4 ideas or sites to get roundbed headboards 4 cheap.

Why are there so many people spamming this thread looking for donations of round beds? That's rather odd.
