Only one more day to go! IKEA Brooklyn opens tomorrow morning and those first thrity-five people in line will collect their free EKTORP sofa. On our recent preveiw-visit to the store, the Apartment Therapy Media group all noticed the LILLESAND bed — notable for its taller-than-usual profile and low, low price...

If you prefer an old-fashioned looking bed, tall bed or a bed that has the option of not being dwarfed by the addition of a box spring mattress, then LILLESAND might be for you. The LILLESAND bed frame is available in full ($149) and queen ($179) sizes from IKEA. At such a low price, we're curious to know if any ATers own LILLESAND — what is the quality like after regular use?
I don't have this shape but i have a simillarly constructed/materials ikea bed and i bought it off craigslist 8 years old and its a champ. I just painted it gloss red and it nice and sturdy.

I don't have this exact bed but I do have a similar king size ikea bed made from the same materials. So far it is great- very sturdy, and our temprepedic mattress is heavier than standard matresses.

Wow, I'm kind of in love with that bed!

DahliaCactus - what paint/process did you use to paint your bed? I like this one but would love it in white or another fun color.

I'm going to be getting this bed. In the store it seems quite sturdy, although I can't say yet how it'll hold up after regular use, of course.
The leirvik is another new bedframe that is just as tall as the lillesand, but it's in white (and even cheaper than lillesand!): http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S59857284

I'm having trouble posting my comment, so I'm sorry if it ends up posting twice.

I've had a very similar bed (perhaps the 'previous model' or an earlier incarnation of the same design - the only real difference is that there's nothing at the foot of the bed) for a couple of years, and although I love that it holds a box spring, it is a serious squeaker-creaker - couples beware. I don't think it's going to stand up to being moved this summer (or that I will stand for moving it).

I saw this bed online and fell in love with it. In person it was another story. The sample bed they had displayed was rickety and made a little "Riii Riii Riii" sound when I moved around on it. In the end I decided to go with a more sturdy bed...a good idea if you live somewhere with thin walls.

You don't have to live with a squeaky bed.

Probably about the same time they realized that they wouldn't be let into closed stores by introducing themselves as "Me and this other guy".

Crazy.
I just moved into a room facing Prospect Park and it came with this frame (in queen size) and a mattress together. To be honest I wasn't too sure about it, perhaps because I prefer wood and such, but it's growing on me.
Laptop work can be awkward because of the bars, but I've made it work. Quite sturdy and quiet.
No complaints whatsoever.
