If you're a minimalist, you'll love CB2's new super, super low Matchbox Bed. It holds just a mattress and lets you sleep just 11" off the ground. This bed also allows the neat and tidy among us to tuck the duvet into the sides of its high-gloss box...

That bed's isn't gonna be easy to put sheets on, the lacquer is gonna get dinged up pretty easily - and what's up with no available headboard?

I love this bed. I'm pretty positive I'm buying it for my new apartment.

bepsf - the absence of the headboard is what this design is all about!

I love the way it looks, and the neatness factor - but I don't think it'd be comfortable. You're going to hurt yourself rolling out in the mornings.

This bed will be out of style in 5... 4... 3... 2... now.

They should have upholstered the bedframe with that Marimekko bedding pattern and then used orange and white bed linens. As it is, the bed looks very uninviting- you could hurt yourself if you aren't careful.

$600 & you still are basically sleeping on the floor.

Whats up with the color? CB2 is pushing that skank orange like there is no tomorrow...

Just a quick suggest for Saturday before lunch project. Get about 30 Ft of finish 2x8, A box of decking screws, a set of bed slats, 5 cans of high gloss white or "skank" orange, and even buy a nice high quality makita circular saw for about $139.
Cut wood with 45 degree angles. Screw together, spray, have a beer, spray and presto. 3 hours and you have a bed that cost you $210 plus a free awesome circular saw. I love CB2, but this one's a bit too easy to DIY.

Every time I go on a trip to SoHo to rummage around the cb2 store, I end up buying one thing (or nothing) there and come home with a huge bag from pearl river.
anyway, the bed.
I'm in the market for a bed and went to go check this one out a couple hours ago.
It got an immediate no vote in person because the corners of the box are HARD and SHARP.
Since I'm not the most graceful person immediately after waking up nor on those occasions that I go to bed after a cocktail or two, skipping this one will save on the cost of bruise cream.
I like the look, but the reality of it just doesn't work for me.

I tend to like the risks CB2 takes, and I like the idea of a lacquered look bed base, but I hate that the mattress sits so deep in the base. It looks awkward, poorly proportioned, and uncomfortable. Many of Ikea's beds have this same odd affliction. The base either needs to be half again shorter or the mattress needs to sit about 6-7 inches higher in the frame. As it is, it looks like the sharp edged base has swallowed a comfortable mattress.
And a headboard option is not a bad idea.

I've been trying to find a suitable bed lately as well. Looking for a very minimal, simple platform bed that will fit in a tight space (think a room, 80" wide). Was pretty set on the Vinstra from Ikea until I found the tall wood bed from West Elm. not particularly attractive, but the advantage of a little hide-away storage has won me over.
Can't someone make a half-decent, minimalist bed for us NY dwellers that keeps things like underbed storage in mind?
