We're impressed with the aesthetics of this new, flip-out convertible sleeper sofa from West Elm. Well-proportioned at a small size, the sofa is only 66" wide and offers a space for an occasional overnight guest in West Elm's style. The coordinated, tufted pillows differentiate it from the familiar futon...

I am not impressed with the $800 price tag. Seriously? $800 for a folding cushion?

you can get somethng similar at ikea for far less. and laura is right; it's essentially a folding cushion with matching cushions. if you're handy, you can buy high density foam and make it yourself.

Had a sofa like this before. Not good for people with poor circulation as the cushions aren't firm enough once folded out. Can't get a good night's sleep unless you add a few layers of blankets or pillows to the top and bottom. Totally not worth the price, and any guest you ask to sleep on it probably won't be coming back for a second visit!

Well, I was thinking that I don't like this either, but OlivaTokyo, your last line may very well make me just go out and get one!

When I was in college, there was a ubiquitous chair with this same (cheap) fold out design--everyone called it the "flip and f**k." When I saw this sofa in the West Elm catalogue, I thought "Oh, it's a gigantic flip and f**k." Which is to say: I'd have to be young, drunk and horny to like this sofa.

Its also unattractive in person. I agree with Laura - 800 bucks for that? What's with the West Elm design team these days and does EVERYTHING have to be brown?

edieb - I thought the same thing!

Oh yes, in my first post-college apt I too had a "flip and f**k" chair (that term is new to me, edleb) and the biggest problem was that you couldn't SIT on the damned thing without slithering to the floor and having it flip open. This West Elm thing probably has a bit more heft, but that low, curved back makes it look no more comfortable.

Is it comfortable to sit on even? not long enough to nap on.
