This sofabed is from the Austrian company, Schmidinger Mbelbau. The design, by Helmut Galler, is not like your typical sofabed, in that it is a really nice sofa or a really nice bed (not a clumsy compromise of both)...

The back and sides of the sofa configuration become an enclosing headboard for the bed configuration. We think this idea would work tremendously in a loft or studio setting - apartments where there is no "bedroom" per se.
Now, for availability, we're really not sure. There's an Austrian phone number in the link above but we've found no other sources. Nonetheless, this is a great idea that could possibly be incorporated into diy designs, too.
I love this idea -- and it looks like it wouldn't be terribly difficult as a DIY.
