Looking for round bed fun? Ever since our first round bed post two years ago, we've received emails from people looking for more round bed options. Finally, Ikea has jumped on the bandwagon with their Sutlan Sandane ($875).

The Sutlan Sandane is a wooden spring loaded base that comes apart in four pieces (like a pie). Wrapped in cotton, it is topped with a 100% cotton ticking mattress pad (one piece) that can be turned over and cleaned whenever necessary.

I have this bed. It is great except for that i need sheets and bedding. I can no longer find the fitted sheets on IKEAs website.
Anyone know of a place to order inexpensive round sheets?
Traci. Do you actually sleep on this bed? And do you have a big bedroom? Because I am struggling to see how it could fit into a small apartment, unless you used it as a bed-cum-sofa type thing.
I've seen it in the store, and I wouldn't say it's terribly large. It's diameter is about the same as the length of a queen sized bed.
I can imagine how it would work for one person but how do multiples do it? Shaquille ONeil showed one in his MTV Cribs episode.
I bet it would be great for multiples, but after we'd probably all want to go find someplace else to sleep.
Hahaha!
Anyway, this could fit in a smaller room, it's not too terribly big. 2 trips ago at IKEA i saw a guy taking pictures of his gf who was posing on it. It also had the mosquito net action going on.
I've been lusting after the round Ikea Sultan Sandane ever since it went on display at the Emeryville Ikea in '05.
Coincidentally, I measured it this past Saturday night - yes, this is what I do with my Saturday nights! - and the flat end of each section is 40", which makes a set of the 4 a round bed 80" in diameter, or about the same length as a queen-sized mattress.
As a currently-single person, I'm actually thinking about purchasing only two of these and putting it against a padded board against a wall, making a nifty semi-circle daybed by day & regular bed at night. I received a lot of stares testing it out on Saturday by flipping the mattress pad in half and laying on just the two sections w/o the pad, and it was quite comfy!
It's also a more affordable way to build up the set - purchase 2 now at $360 ($180 each), then purchase the other 2 later. Also, the other 2 can be used as ottomans, seating, or together against a wall, as a guest bed! Now if only I could find a semi-circle fitted sheet...
To answer the question above, I have a small extra room in my otherwise studio apartment that I use as a bedroom. It literally is a bedroom, as that is all that fits in!
It is very comfortable for one person to sleep in. I like to change directions from night to night. It is easy to get comfy when you can face whatever way you want.
For two people, it is not so great for sleeping. My boyfriend has to sleep directly across the center to have enough room/height, and i get stuck on a side. Which, to answer the question of just purchasing half of the bed, is not great. You would never be able to lay out totally straight unless you were right up against the wall and on your side. I do think it would look nice though. I have thought of using mine that way once i get another bed.
Cara- I cannot find the link to purchase the sheets on IKEA's website. Do you know where i could find them?
Another comment- IKEA does not have circular blankets.
traci - I think that Ikea only has a round fitted sheets, and not a round top sheet. There was a mention of it in-store, but have never seen it on the Ikea website. From what I've seen on AT of the other round bed discussion, there are multiple sites that have round bed sheet sets in a variety of colors & styles, so you're not limited to Ikea there.
The other round bed discussion, as linked above:

The display bed at Ikea has a square mattress. :)
End of day brain - gah! What I meant in the last line above is that the display Ikea bed has a square blanket.

I bought this bed a year an a half ago and love it. It's very comfortable, even for two people. My girlfriend and I have no problem, I am 6'0" she is 5'5".
As someone mentioned above it comes in 4 pie-piece wedges that can all be seperated. When I bought this bed I figured even if I get sick of it in a year or move to a new place, I can use the wedge shapes as cool little corner seats.
I have a very small studio apartment 14'x16' and it fits very well. In fact because it is curved, it really keps the small room feeling open. There are no hard corners like a regular bed, and I don't have to jam one side against the wall as I would a standard mattress.
Finding sheets is a different story. I was trying for a while but have since given up. I bought california king t-shirt sheets and they were big enough to fit. The extra slack where the corners of a normal bed would be I took up with old fashioned sheet elastics. Any bedding store should have them, they are elastic with rubber loop-thingys at the end that attach to the sheet. Cost about 2 bucks. If anyone knows where to get true round sheets I'd love to know, but this system has not failed me. Standard square (rectangle) comforter looks fine on it.
Oh and one other thing for the person thinking about only buying half. I'm not sure how it will be length-wise, but without the top pillow, it will still be comfortable.
Ikea ran out of the top pad when I bought mine and I slept without it for about a month. The top pad does make a difference though, it is even more comfy with it.
I've seen too much of the furniture of it's kind - looks interesting, but not more. It's unpractical to have a bed like that.
I've seen a good website with great prices - www.comfyco.com is a good choice. Modern and Comfy :)
i want one for every room in the house, who cares how impractical. why should shaq be the only one to have fun here?
