Big chair. SKGR hates it; we like it. She says it looks like a big chair. We find sculptural and cozy. Alright, it's a bit much and it won't fit in many apartments, but in the hunt for good and interesting beds we think this should be included.
The Westport Bed is $2,200 to $4,000 at Williams Sonoma Home. It is foam padded over double-doweled, corner-blocked solid hardwood frame. Platform has a built-in box spring upholstered to match. Hey, you only need to buy a mattress and your set. MGR

I really like the idea of this bed, and could totally picture getting all snuggled up in it, but it carries its weight wrong somehow...
I think it's great looking and idea for someone who likes to read in bed.
For the record, I carry my weight wrong somehow...
oops, ideal
Somehow the proportions are off... I feel like it's going to clamp down on the occupant.
The back just seems too high, compared to normal beds, but it's probably measured to be just right for most people. It looks so much better in the top picture, so I bet if they had just dressed it to have fluffier pillows, you guys wouldn't be reacting like this...
or, knowing us, we'd be complaining about too many fluffy pillows.
it scares me
I actually think that with nice solid night stands against the side (maybe W-S Home's Essex side tables), and the aforementioned pillows, it would be dreamy.
My wife and I have owned the King size fabric version of this bed for a couple of months now and we love it.
Honestly, I think this is so hideous and 80s and Alice-in-Wonderland-in-a-bad-way (Yes, there is a good way.) It also reminds me of a beige Venus Flytrap.
I don't get 80's from this bed at all.
...maybe in another color or a bad chintz? I remember a lot of strange "traditional" furniture from the 80s.
All I can think about is how much dust is going to settle in the upholstery.
That's why they make upholstery attachments for vacuums.
Maybe it looks 80s to me because I spent my youth in Miami. I saw many variations of padded, oversized furniture in my day, usually in monochromatic decorating schemes. It just reminds me of Miami Vice a bit. But if it's someone else's taste, more power to them.
Don't mean to pick on you, but as a Miami native myself, I don't see these as Miami Vice at all. I think maybe it's all about context (as Mike-NJ laughs)... when you see this bed in the catalog/room setting, it's very much Ralph Lauren (in a good way) and very not Don Johnson (in any way).
It looks kind of guest room to me. Like you have a giant Pee Wee's Playhouse chair that you open up for overnight guests.
Is there a good Don Johnson way? Like, ever?
I totally agree Ruth, looks like a oversized chair. Its not completely awful, not sure if I'd want it though.
Uh, helllooo... SUPPOSED to look like a chair...
I love it. I would like to see it in person. I am just finishing remodeling my bedroom and I would like to purchase a new bed. I think it looks great with pillows. Does anyone know where I can find one of these beds in the San Francisco Bay Area?
