Very convenient, but 2k (all in) for white laminate seems like a lot. You could have a great antique bed for that.

The Storage Bed from Potty...opps, I mean Pottery Barn is much more stylish and better constructed. West Elm is one step up from Ikea--Great Design, bad construction. I wouldn't pay that price for pressed wood.

So AT, how about stepping away from the hoarding of PFB's* for a moment?

I am in the market for a new bed right now, and I just so happen to want a storage bed. Rather than posting links to mass-produced products that I can find by googling 'storage bed' or 'bed storage' would you consider instead creating a cache of plans and suggestions for storage beds - from scratch or hacks - that we can make for ourselves for less than 2K? AT has a large reader-base full of very creative people and I'm thinking that at least a few of them have come up with excellent storage bed designs.

I agree with scarletdog - I really want/need a good storage bed and will most likely need to make it myself. I don't want to spend thousands or event too many hundreds on it. I'm looking for some ideas for a good storage bed that is not too heavy or expensive.

You could hack your own storage bed from IKEA components for a fraction of $2k. And the quality wouldn't be much worse than West Elm's either.

A classic vintage piece holds its value, whereas a boxy white-laminate piece is Craigslist in 10 years, for 10 percent of its cost. 2K just seems like a lot for a bed that isn't special. If that's the look you want, why not just go to Ikea?

Also, any bed is a storage bed if there's room underneath, no?

I have one of these beds with headboard in the chocolate finish and am very happy with it. Seems very solidly built and suits my style, space, and needs. Looked at several that have been listed on this site before and was not satisfied with most.

I don't have good Ikea-hack skills and frankly was not impressed with their beds enough to bother. The DWR Matera is stunning but not in my price range.

After much research (and trips to various stores!) I purchased the Dream storage bed froom Door Store (http://www.doorstorefurniture.com/bedroom/dream). I am extremely happy with the purchase. I'd like to indicate that the 4 drawers are not as deep as West Elm's, but they do fit everything I need (extra bedding, [currently] summer clothes). The price was great (around $800 for a queen with headboard) and it's made out of REAL wood! Added 2 side tables from Target for $50 each and voila - instand bedroom success. Martha Stewart magazine years ago had great instructions for building wide shallow boxes from wood (or particle board) and putting wheels on the bottom of them so you could easily slide them under any bed you wanted. Build four yourself, say, two feet square each, and you'd have your under bed storage with whatever stylish bed, new or antique, you like!

Granted, an antique bed will indeed prove more valuable down the road.

But not everyone likes antiques!!!!!!

Also, the 2K price is biggest bed with all available options.

If you find something non-particle board (actually, I think these are MDF, to be a stickler) in this price range, modern in styling, readily available (not 10-12 weeks delivery), for $1200 or under, let us know. I know I'd love to know.

I think this got posted not because it is the solution to a world problem, but because the launch of a new color for a reasonable storage bed *is* newsworthy to some in the AT audience. I am a West Elm junkie, and I had previously missed this, so thanks Aaron!

I've been looking and googling and asking friends to keep an eye out and I'm starting to think I'm going to just commission something from one of the local furniture builders. (Probably a better choice for my local economy anyway.) I'm not against paying 2k for a bed, because I want a queen-sized storage bed with a cool headboard delivered to my door and assembled by nice people, but it has to be for something that has value to me. PB, OSB and MDF are all variants on the same theme and they are to wood what hot dogs are to steak, in my opinion, regardless of what colour choices are available for the laminates.

Does anyone have the Stratton bed with drawers from Pottery Barn? How do you like it?

I just got it and I love it. It was expensive yes, but none of the other storage beds I've seen spoke to me. The drawers are deep, the bed is comprised of three parts that can be disassembled to move it. Each part has two drawers.

I was hoping I could get away with putting my boxspring on it which is fairly new, but when I put the mattress on top, the bed overall was too high to easily get into (my mattress and boxspring are extra deep).

I love that I'll never have to vacuum under the bed again and that anything I store in the drawers will be protected from dust.

I also got the matching dresser and the night stand and honestly, the night stand is a little too large and if you keep it by the bed, you have to move it to access the one drawer it will have to stand in front of. A floating wall shelf would probably work better as a nightstand.

I was able to save a little on the furniture by buying it through the Upromise website while they were having a 4% cashback special...It's usually 3%

The bed base is painted solid wood, by the way...but the draws are MDF
