Top Bedding: Voting was fierce for this survey and the categories spread themselves out by pricing. We opted not to vote on designers this year, but just list reader's favorites. All comments are preserved below, but are now closed to prevent fearless bedding self-promoters.

My best friend swears by Century 21. I like Bed, Bath & Beyond. I've done just fine at Company Store, too.
ABC Carpet for Signoria di Firenze sheets
Dwell for graphic patterns
Chambers catalog for blankets
surprisingly I have found much old 1940's/50's never used dead stock on ebay and fleamarkets, usually still has tags on them. Cheap really nice linen, unfortunately no fitted sheets.
Rockstar category: Leontine Linens. Online and also at Bergdorf Goodman. They make very cool, very expensive monograms for you.
For sheets: overstock.com. They have some really high-quality ones for cheap. There's also a similar web site called smartbargains.com with good sheets. Yeah, I'm on a budget.
TJ Maxx and Marshalls. I love digging through a pile of sheets to find cool ones. Almost all of my linens are from Ralph Lauren but I've mixed and matched patterns in different ways with cream.
I really like pillowsandthrows.com. I found some really cool Jonathan Adler "bargello" pillows there that I love.
Matouk...I ordered a bunch of stuff from Matouk after reading about it on your site. Their stuff is classic. They'll customize the tape or thread around the sheets or duvet covers. They wash well too!
Century 21 is a bargain extravaganza for Dept Store brands.
I'm also fond of Dwell's sample sales, and used to like ABC Home but have found their patterns fussy the last decade or so...
Ikea is scratchy. But cheap. Good for guests you want to run off...?
Want modern and hip, try out Design Public. Spent more than I wanted to, but love 'em...

My favourite linens are here and a lot of them are unique to Australia, like the collections I have posted here in my Flickr account.

I second the discount places like TJ Maxx, Filene's Basement and Overstock. I also like
Garnet Hill
Wildcat Territory

ABC
BB&B
I like the designs of Pottery Barn's collections but they only have 200 thread count and I won't sleep on that. Good for a guest or kids' rooms though.
Wende - when I lived in Sausalito I shopped for bedding at a store that's a chain. I thought it was at Town Center in Corde Madera but I don't see it listed on the Town Center website. What's the name of it? I know you must know it. It's in that center on Market St. too.
(I hate these ****ing #s we have to type in!!)
It is killing me not to have access to AT during the day! I hope the mysterious routing error is corrected soon.
Anyway, my pick is Signoria di Firenze, preferably picked up in Italy but ABC or Marshall Fields works too. I also like Matteo and Area and to fill in the blanks Garnet Hill or The Company Store online.
Luigi, I still think that Chambers has gone by the wayside -- if you're still getting a catalog could you hook me up? Grazie!
Century 21 by far. You can get some really nice blankets and sheets for cheap. Also, if you are ever in Boston go to the real Filenes Basement in Downtown Crossing. Go before it closes. I got gorgeous Calvin Klein sheets and blankets for half the price of even century 21. I've seen the same linens at ABC for six times as much. If you don't like Century 21, go to Marshalls. None of these places are my favorite for shopping, but if you want cheaply-priced linen - the same pieces you'll find at ABC - than hit these places. there is no need to go anywhere else, unless, you just like to spend ten times as much for the samething.
I think Chambers sort of split between Pottery Barn Bed & Bath and Williams Sonoma Home, no?
Hmmm, Anne, not sure I'm on board with the whole "I won't sleep on sheets like that, but I'll let my guests sleep on 'em..." ;)
No specific place, just anyone who has well-constructed moderately-high-thread sheets at decent prices. I have some soft 270-threads but I prefer 300s. Have found viable items at Overstock.com, warehouse stores, Target.
When I shopped at stores like Marshalls or TJMaxx (same company, btw) in the past, they tended to only carry percale and jersey; I prefer sateen. What they have depends largely on which location you're at, though. In general I find them better for deep-discount cookware and glassware.
Bluefly.com for Frette and sometimes Dwell sheets, Restoration Hardware, Room&Board for Area sheets, Pottery Barn sometimes has some cool patterns though the threadcount could be better, second TJ Maxx and Marshalls recs, but it all depends on how lucky you are at finding things there and how much time you have to search.
a note on thread count
(it's not the only thing that matters)
the type of cotton, say long staple, is *as* important on getting luxurious, soft, and long wearing sheets. there's plenty of lousy sheets around with ridiculously high thread counts...it's practically meaningless to me at this point.
I've been happy with The Company Store and Pottery Barn. I would very specifically avoid cheap cataloger's like "Domestications". Their collections photograph well, and sleep poorly.
I have always been a fan of W hotel store for bedding.
www.whotelsthestore.com
Also, I would take a look at catlogers like LL Bean. Sometimes Sierra Outpost, a western catalog liquidator, has great deals on good blankets. I've purchased beautiful Scottish and Icelandic lambswool blankets for $20-$30 from them.
P2 - if my guests (I have guests about one night every 2-3 years) get pretty, clean sheets thrown on a sofa for free, then 200 thread count is fine with them and me. If I were to sleep on 200 t.c. as a guest it wouldn't bother me. I just don't want to sleep on them every single night. Now, if I had a house with a nice guest bedroom set up for long term guests, I'd get the best sheets I could afford for them. But the sofa in a studio gets 200.
For basics, I recommend the discounter Tuesday Morning. Sure, there's lots of cheese but also great bargains to be had. I went to their Chicago store on Saturday with my sis, who needed bedding for her new mattress. We picked up a quality mattress cover for $50 and a queen sateen sheet set with a thread count of 400 for the same price. They also had sheet sets with even higher thread counts, all priced under $100, along with down comforters and pillows. Some stuff was tacky but there was plenty of easy-to-live-with neutrals.
I've also had good luck with Target's Bella bed linens but alas I haven't seen them in store lately and think they may be discontinued.
W-Hotel: Sublime sheets pill almost right away - stay away.
Restoration Hardware: Perfect sheets (and towels).
Wildcat Territory is classified as a store but it is actually a designer that sells wholesale only.
Please do not laugh, but all of my bedding comes from Target. I have gotten some SERIOUS deals there on sale items. Sure, it's knock off stuff, but I prefer to spend money on Abyss towels (which I love love love!) than bedding that I seem to go through every couple of years anyway. I have some 4 different sets of bedding (duvet covers and so on) and my Target stuff are about my favorite.
Also - I think thread count is WAY overrated!
I love Dwell - great designs and colors, and the sheets get softer with each washing.
Love Dwell (especially the sample sales!) Their kid's bedding is verry cute.
DWELL rocks. Definitely my favorite and they always seem to come up with great new designs that make alot of other bedding companies seem pretty boring.
Dwell has so many designs to choose from. Their bedding will add a sharp look to just about any space.
Bluefly is listed under cheap? There's nothing cheap about Bluefly!
http://www.2modern.com is the best place to find modern pillows online. They should be listed in the survey!
why isn't Dwell on the list?
clearly half of us are obsessed with their sales!
What about Fold bedding? I found out about them on AT website over a year ago and loved them ever since.
AREA is the best by a long shot as far as design and quality go.
2modern is easy to shop!
KATHRYN - I believe Chambers just became a part of Williams Sonoma Home. That was their brand above Pottery Barn, and now they have just gone back to the WS name for their highest quality.
Yup, I have to say for the guests, it's often Target sheets after a lot of Downy washings. Thanks to fabric softener, some of them are now softer than my high thread count sheets (which I get at Overstock). Shabby Chic (not the Target line, but the original really overpriced line) had very comfy sheets but the designs are not really for me.
I love the Marimekko designs at Crate and Barrel, but they are not very luxurious - usually 200 t.c.
Becky
great bedding and other stuff at this site, I think you can buy at pillowsandthrows.com.
sorry forgot the designer name - this is the site www.in-fusions.com
2Modern had the best, most user-friendly site of the bunch. Everything ordered arrived as scheduled. They met our every expectation.
I'd like to put in a vote for shopping the bedding section of Macy's Herald Square. Tons of selection from a wide variety of designers and price points, crazy ass sales and their Hotel Collection which is really nice modern stuff.

The best way for bedding:
obeodesign.com is the best site with great value. They have some of the best bedding of really high-quality with a great choice of color palette. I recommend them highly over all the other listed shops. Nelida
I have been burned by buying what was said to be “good quality” linens at certain stores.
I had a set of sheets that pilled and ripped at the seams in no time because of shrinkage.
I learned my lesson and spend my money on name brand, trusted labels from reputable stores. Matouk is one of my favorites, they have the largest selection of colors I have seen and you can have custom embroidery and custom details added to them. As far as where I buy is this on line store http://elegantlinenspc.com/Matouk.htm. I buy from them because they have a real store front in the Las Vegas area which means when you call to ask a question you get a real salesperson who knows what they are talking about. Plus they have a sample program where you can order a swatch of the fabrics you are looking at before you buy.
