And if you know of one that isn't selling expensive shopping bags made out of recycled plastic in Viet Nam, all the better.

One thing I love about NYC is the informal version of the above -- people put stuff out and other people drag it off.

There is a new gift collective in Los Angeles called Reform School and they offer the coolest selection of Eco gifts I have seen. Much edgier than most of the web based Eco stores. They have a stationary line from London made from recycled tires, computers etc. that is not available anywhere else in the U.S. They also have skateboard purses, recycled book journals, organic tees for kids, handmade sock monkeys and so much more. The collective is located at; The Kids Are Alright, 2201 W. Sunset blvd. Los Angeles, 90026

Two guys I know started this store in Chicago:

    http://www.greenmakersupply.com/

Stuff for your home, stuff for building a home.
They are better-financed than many green stores, and they are on track to open more locations.

3rliving in Brooklyn. They sell really great products, and the store keeps getting better and better with each time i visit. Also, their in-store recycling center accepts batteries, cell phones, cartridges and even crayons. So you can purchase without guilt and recycle at the same time.
