We've been looking for these glasses for three years! About six years ago we were taken to dinner at Cipriani at the Rainbow Room and saw these very elegant and efficient small wine glasses. Perfectly suited for an Italian wine or a small apartment, they had a sexy little shape and compact size we'd never seen. We found them a few months later at Dean & Deluca downtown and bought a full set.
Then life took its toll.
Over the years we've broken so many that only two remain. We went back to Dean & Deluca. No luck. Then just two weeks ago, we wandered in and found them again. At $4 a glass they are not expensive. The only problem is that they may soon sell out again.
Above you see them next to a juice glass. On the right you see how big they are compared with a classic red wine glass.

Huh. When I worked at a hotel during college, I used to borrow for dinner parties those exact glasses from the hotel bar. Perhaps they're also available in restaurant supply stores...
My favorite wine glasses were from Crate & Barrel (I think). They were called stackable wine glasses and they too are great if you don't have a lot of space. They weren't very high, so they didn't tip over easily and they fit anywhere in the dishwasher. I love the way they feel in the hand. Alas I have only one left and can't seem to find them again.
Did anyone else notice that Riedel now has a line at Target?
Can't believe that Target has a Riedel line. Is it any good. I just recently sprung for the Vinum series and would be intersted to know how it compares? Is it only available at Target?
To Lynn: I too have been looking for the stackable wine glasses I got from Crate & Barrel. I sent an email to Crate & Barrel and got a response that they no longer have them. The dimensions are: 5" height, 2 1/4" base and 2 7/8" rim. I only have 3 left!
The Target Reidel line is designed by Reidel but made in China (or at least the ones I got were). I received a set of 4 as a gift, and was suprised to find that they are decent quality. They are nowhere near as thin and elegant as Reidel Vinum glasses, but they are well-made and well designed, with thin-ish stems, and the proper shape and size for a wide variety of reds and whites. They are far more sturdy than my Reidels, which make them good for parties, particularly if you're serving non-wine drinking friends who don't know the difference anyway.
I saw these, or a similar version, at Gracious Home for $3.95@
Where did you find them the second time?
