We have a butcher block island in our kitchen and have really come to like sitting around it in the evening. I'd bought one stool at first, and just recently bought a second one, which allows us all to sit down (finally! says Sara). In doing so, I fell in love again with our stools and then spotted them this past weekend on the cover of a 2006 Martha Stewart Living - in her own kitchen! Surprisingly, although Martha lists many of her resources, she doesn't say where her stools are from. Let me help you!...

Anyway, as soon as I decided to blog this, I wanted to add a few others that are worthy of attention and.... voila! another roundup. Enjoy.
>> The Lyon Industrial Stool @ $60

>> The unpainted stool when it arrived

>> After painting it last January with Marston non toxic paint
---
>> Bassam Fellows Tractor Stools - Solid wood and based on the shape of Swiss tractor seats
---
>> Thos Moser High Stool - Also designed on the shape of a tractor seat... An American tractor?
---
>> The Marais Stool - This comes in grey and yellow from DWR: "The epitome of French café life, it's rumored that Xavier Pauchard's Marais Collection (1934) was created for use in the weather forecasting room on a battleship."
---
>> Emeco Bar Stools - Made out of 80% recycled aluminum and designed for the MoMA
---
>> Hi Pad Stool by Jasper Morrison - pricey, but elegant with a leather or fabric seat in bright colors.
Sundance has the Tolix H70 stool like DWR and if you buy two they are 225.00 each, DWR is 300.00 each.

I actually sit on our bar stools and really need the back support, so we got two of these from Dania for the breakfast bar:

They're quite comfortable and look nice with our modern kitchen.

I found a collection of six of these vintage medical stools on Ebay a couple of years ago. I bought them and stuffed them in my storage unit KNOWING that I would not be a renter forever. They are so fantastic! You can raise and lower them as needed. They can be used in the living room as extra seating, in the office, in my art studio, whereever you need a seat. One came with a cushioned seat cover that I am going to have replicated for all 6 (in a shocking colored mock ostrich leather perhaps).

If anyone from Bassam is reading this - I didn't go to your web page simply because it resized my entire browser. So much for buying your stools.
Fix that shit.

I love shop or lab stools. They have a covering on the metal seat that buffers the cool metal, thus no cool fannies :)
I suppose they could be painted, but I like the industrial look of them as is. These are 49 bucks: http://www.everythingofficefurniture.com/nps-6230.html
Although these deluxe 104 dollar ones with curved lines are very sexy as well, and adjustable: http://www.globalindustrial.com/gcs/prod/30123636/i/productInfo.web

The H70 stool by Sundance or Conran is NOT, I repeat NOT, a counter height stool. It is the mix between a bar height and a counter height. H70 stand for centimeters so 70 cm is 27.5" which is too high as a counter stool and too low as a barstool. You would want a H65 stool which is 65cm or 25.5"H as a counter stool and the H75 as a bar stool which is 75cm or 29.5".
I guess management there doesn't want to stock both the true counter stool and the bar stool, in order to save money, so they did a comprise which is good as neither.
The best place that has them in any possible color you could imagine is Antiquaire in Highland Park, Illinois.

They are also on Facebook.
They carry the complete line of Tolix barstools. They have the standard stools as well as some with low backs and high backs on the, And may I repeat for all you designers out there, they have over 100 colors to choose from that they will order direct from Tolix. No need being stuck with that rust color or neon yellow that DWR offers. At last...some variety and choice to be original for yourself or for your client!
Check them out. I bought mine there and they are FANTASTIC!
