The Winner: The Bachelor Party!
The Big Window Challenge

1-30-windowfinal2.jpg

Last night the polls closed after nearly two weeks of online voting and intense interior design pressure on the streets of New York. We want to thank our three reader/designers and Bloomingdale's for making this possible. Hey, this was a lot of fun. We lived out our dreams, inhabiting some of the most famous windows in the city.

And while we firmly believe that the winners of our Big Window Challenge were ALL THREE designers, the voters ended up choosing 1,2,3 in this way....

First place will receive $500 in store credit from Bloomingdale's, an entry in the history books and many phone numbers stuffed in his pocket. The other two? Just the phone numbers ;-). Thanks to all of you and see you next year on Lexington!

First Place: The Bachelor Party
Designer: Patrick J. Hamilton
Vote Count: 2622

----

Second Place: Bridget's Bridge
Designer: Curtis Robertson
Vote Count: 2209

----

Third Place: The Downtown Chalet
Designer: Jane Mount
Vote Count: 2048

Bachelor Party looks like a bad Urban Outfitters advert. Anyone agree? I'm just being honest. Funky New York Cool tonal frames? You might as well add a ghost chair and call it Macys juniors dpt or just outdated. . .

It was kind of a wild ride, but basically getting to do this was one of the best things that ever happened to me, next to actually making it into the book itself (remember the book? Apartment Therapy Presents Real Homes Real People Hundreds of Real Design Solutions?). Oh... and buying the apartment, itself. Meanwhile, don't forget that they're in the middle of doing another book, people, so if you love your own small space and think we will, too, click that yellow box toward the top left of the site and maybe you'll be included in this next book!

And serioiusly? Patrick has said it before on here, and it's absolutely true, but the thing about these windows is that IN PERSON they're much more beautiful and much more interesting, so if you haven't seen them all in person, your opinion is not going to be really as informed as it should be, for better OR worse.

If you live in New York City or even near it, the windows are going to be up through the weekend, so GO! See! Please!

Thanks to everyone who has been kind enough to vote for me, and who got their friends to vote for me.

I didn't vote in this contest because I didn't want to have to pick between the three. Congratulations to you all!

But now that p2's won: it's striking how similar the inspiration for his Bloomie's window is to that small, cool apartment winner. They've both got the same exuberance of a young man hellbent on living the good life in the big city. It's a wonderful thing to keep hankering after the bright lights, and I must says it holds great appeal to the Bachelor Within.

So have a cigar, p2! With confidence that in your case, anyway, a cigar is more than just a cigar.

I went to see the windows at Bloomingdale's ;-)
It was worth it.
Curtis you're right they translate much better in person.
They were not designed for a camera.
They are all beautiful.

I even went up to five to drool over the furniture department.
I almost spent money, they had a 75% off on area rugs!!!!
How tempting!

Agreed, all 3 were winners. Patrick, well done--LOVED your window. AT, this was really fun and connected a lot of things. Very interesting idea.

I was lucky enough to go see them in person-- all of them were amazing! I voted for Jane's because... I could see myself living there. Curtis and P(too)/P2 were both close close seconds. It was honestly hard to choose. Congratulations to All and to AT!

Congrats to all three designers, you are all winners. I personally liked PToo's design, they were all great and it was hard to choose. Does this mean we will 'see' less of PToo now he is famous :)

I honestly don't know what was more nerve-wracking... the final day of voting, or the day *after* with no word (official or otherwise!) whatsoever about the contest outcome!

At any rate, it's a great honor to get the nod once again from the AT community (and beyond). The fact that at some point, each of the three of us held the lead just goes to show that Maxwell did a great job representing the readership with his selection. There truly was something for everyone, and I felt in good company with Curtis and Jane every step of the way.

I'm also especially happy that the AT community set aside some of its notions about chain stores and saw Bloomingdale's furniture in a fresh, new light... which it truly deserves. There's some hot stuff there now!!

Many years ago, I would make the trip to Bloomingdale's to study the model rooms, so carefully constructed... marveling at the styling details, wondering about the rooms' invisible yet "present" fictional inhabitants, lusting after the furniture... so to have this opportunity was pretty amazing, the cliche dream-come-true.

A final thanks to Bloomingdale's-- Emily, Joan, James, Harry and Harry's window install team for making us all look SO good.

Thanks also to Ron for your humor and patience (and bottle of Bombay!), William and Doug for being such great creative sounding boards early on, Stephen at Designlush for the beautiful hides, Mike for the additional photos, and John for the cigar. It's a nice feeling to have such a great group of guys to call friends. That alone makes the win even sweeter. Hope I made you all proud!

Finally, to seaside... The Haunted Mansion is my favorite ride at Disney World, so thank you. :)
