We've seen a lot of approaches to blogging furnishings, but this one takes today's cake. The site, Stuff White People Like, is self explanatory and nails it in this one:
But as with all things, white people will do whatever it takes to secure authenticity including paying thousands of dollars for a small piece of furniture.
This is from: #79 Modern Furniture. Check it out. (Thanks, Don!)

I love Stuff White People Like. Meaning, it's a good blog. But the other sense is also true. I am white and they've pretty much got me down.

my friend referred me to that blog and i found it funny. but i feel it probably applies to any yuppie, regardless of race. i'm not white, yet i seem to fulfill a fair number of their criteria.

i recently came upon this website through a friend who asked me to check out the asian girls post.
the site overall is funny, a little offensive and definitely not for the politically correct crowd. in the context of each post, the images they use become instantly hilarious and also kind of sad.
i am asian and was adopted as an infant into a "white" family, so i am in on the joke yet not.

At first, I thought the name sounded kinda racist, no?
But, I just checked it out and it looks like it pretty much makes fun of white people all the same... Or at least stereotypes (which can be dangerously wrong, yet often funny).
I'm half asian/half white.
(and, I find the asian stuff hilarious!)

I just don't understand the appeal, it's kind of funny but not funny enough to laugh out loud. It's a bit offensive but for no pay off. I rather read The Onion for my funny "news" and watch Richard Pryor for the offensive with a pay off.

I do find myself laughing at an awful lot of it. I've also found myself critiquing it somewhat -- what's the flipside? Crap furniture is better? It's better to eat food made with chemicals? Not traveling is preferable to seeing the world? That's what really hangs me up.

I would like to update my comment about this site...
I AM IN TEARS! It made me laugh so hard!
It's funny to think about. But, again.. just like any other "stereotype"....no reason to get sensitive.

This website is hilarious! And a great guide for the rest of us that have a hard time figuring out our lighter-skinned brothers and sisters!

I would add bicycles with baskets and PBR.
Maybe skinny jeans too.
Sports bars.

and flip flops

Art - bikes with baskets, PBR and skinny jeans are for hipsters, not all white people. Sports bars (yuck) and skinny jeans (yum) don't mix. :)

aw estydotca, I 'd wear skinny jeans to a sports bar any day of the week.

Yeah, read through a few pages of posting and really, while its kind of funny in a yuppy sort of way (priuses and bottled water) the gist of it is that non-white people dont care about quality, dont care about the environment, dont care about how they look or dress, dont care about human rights issues, dont care about politics, dont care about going to college etc etc. Which seems pretty racist to me.
view Modfan's profile
Actually, I thought the funny part was that the yuppies are insincere in their apparent care for quality, environment, clothes, human rights issues, politics, education etc and they are being called on it. Doing something because it's cool is silly and it does make me laugh. And I totally had a laugh at my own expense while I was reading it which was probably the best part.

While some of the stuff on the blog is funny, I think it is dangerous to stereotype anyone based on their skin color (or anything else for that matter). I am also just sick to death of white guilt. I don't think white people "deserve" to be villified because they were born white. Vilify people because of their own actions, not the actions of their ancestors or other people who look like them.
This is a slippery slope. Ok. I'll get off my soap box now.

bohemianbeauty7, that was a very white thing to say...

I'd have to agree with Modfan here.
Hee, hee, hee look at me making fun of myself at the expense of others. Pretty pathetic attempt poking fun at oneself.

OMG. I'm in a "category". I have to change something. Ditch The Wire? No. San Pellegrino? No. My Apples? No. My Nelson lamps? No. My junior year abroad? Impossible. I don't hate my parents, so nyah.
