Blogging Cottage Living... Creative Wine Storage

We couldn't help blogging one more great thing from Cottage Living. It's a slideshow on their website that shows creative wine storage solutions for small cottage spaces.

We love those clay drain tiles shown up top. And check out the following two space-saving ideas:

Hmm, wouldn't the heat coming out the back of the fridge be bad for that wine sitting up top?

Aaron - Not if you drink it fast enough! :)

I cringe every time I see people store wine on top of their fridge.

Love the clay tiles in the top photo - which also have the added benefit of a cooling effect on the wine.

We use an old library card catalog I picked up off of cragislist. Works great, plus you can make little cards for the slots on the outside of the drawer to tell you what's inside.

Ditto the love of the clay tubes, which I am seriously considering adopting and the wince at the above fridge storage.

I'm so jealous of the library card catalog idea. I hope I find one on craigslist soon.

Hopefully, those who store wine on top of the fridge drink the wine really fast i.e. within the course of a dinner party. It is not a good idea to store wine this way. Unless of course they're using cheap wine for decor.

Why buy wine en masse when you don't have proper storage to begin with? Your wine seller will have better storage conditions than you so buy wine as you need them, and if you guest bring wine over and won't be needing them for the evening, please keep them away from the heat generated by the fridge.

The terra-cotta drain pipes are quite an ingenious substitute for the more expensive terra-cotta wine storage solutions but for long term storage, you'd still need to use them inside a wine cellar.
