Did you see the Shigeru Ban: Eco-Efficiency Expert slideshow published by the Times on Sunday? The Japanese architect, whose body of work is mostly in Japan, has been completing more work in the US recently. Two of those projects were in NYC and both are in the slideshow.
One was the temporary Nomadic Museum constructed on Pier 54 a couple of years ago. The other was the construction of an emergency shelter as part of the Safe exhibit at the MoMA.
This 5-minute slideshow walks us through some of Ban's work. The feature is narrated by NYTimes art critic Michael Kimmelman with photos by Nikolas Koenig.
Probably my favorite architect because of his merging of simple beauty with inventive sustainability... really poetic work. I saw him speak at the Walker Art Center in Mpls a few years ago and he was fantastic! This slide show did not include his curtain house in Japan... yep, 2 (or 3?) of the exterior walls are curtains that pull back to let the sunshine in (& much else besides).

He is amazing - he also had a piece in MoMA's garden made completely of cardboard tubing. I love the church he built after the earthquake in Kobe, Japan which is still standing I think. He says its oval shape came from Bernini. Yes, a poet.
