Need some time to yourself? This week's Time Out New York shows you how to get in some good me-time without leaving the city.
The issue covers places we've never heard about, so we're sure they're prime opportunities to escape the hustle-bustle of the streets without leaving town. We're particularly taken with the Lotus Garden, a community garden on a garage roof on the UWS (pictured up top).

I have been a member of the Lotus Garden for three years now, I live around the corner. It is a lovely escape; quite, and the best part is, you can only get in with a key!

Regina,
Thanks for putting this up. I have been trying to track down the info for the garden to go take pictures! I had heard about this garden in a vague story back when I lived near Columbia. The story I had heard was that the garden plot was relocated to the roof as a compromise to build the garage (which matches the info on their website). But then recently a coworker who has an apartment that looks down on the garden was mentioning this, but he wasn't sure of the name.
I always wondered HOW it could be a community garden and also be located on top of a building. I think their key system is great, and a very small investment for a bit of peace and quiet. Will definitely try to visit on the open hours on Sunday (along with all the other people who read the article!).
