I LOVE LOVE LOVE Buenos Aires. But first, I think there are better buys down there (Recoleta is like the Upper East Side -- I'd go for Palermo if I were to live there). Second, I'm not sure I'd invest there -- Argentina is a wonderful country, but stability is not one of it's strong suits.

I was really disappointed by that article...Buenos Aires seems like it is filled with unique and interesting spaces and NY Times focused on one bland-tacular condo that could be in any old town. I was hoping to see some of the interesting spaces the city has to offer and all the times had to offer was an advertisement for some new construction.

Agree with MidC Frank-- there are better buys in BA, but real estate is appreciating fast. A friend who lives there tells me new hi-rise condos are going unfilled because the prices have risen too much for most working Portenos and the market is glutted with these properties.

I so want a place in Buenos Aires, and I've never even been there. I just have a sense that I'd love being there. But I agree - I'm surprised the NY Times used this one. A simple web search reveals hundreds of interesting and similarly priced options.

Typical property targeting unsuspecting foreigners. To someone from Manhattan it seems like a bargain but in reality it's overpriced for the market. There are much better deals to be had. As a previous poster mentioned Palermo is one area - however Palermo is a huge area with many small distinctly different feeling neighborhoods, each with their own character. But bottom line - there are still deals to be had and if the economy continues like it is there will be plenty more deals mirroring those after the last economic crash. Do your research and that doesn't mean scouring the Internet for "deals" because those will be the highest priced. Go there, fall in love with the city and the people, and buy because you feel it's the right thing to do.
