We've become a bit obsessed with ombre - the shading and fading of colors and tones. While we've looked at various ombre rugs from West Elm and Macy's, the May issue of Martha Stewart Living features an entire section of do-it-yourself ombre crafts. Definitely ambitious (all the projects involve progressive dyeing of natural textiles like linen and cotton), there is a scale of difficulty: the projects range from dyeing napkins and paper lanterns to dyeing bed linens and curtains...
I used to teach African textiles - getting that effect is fairly easy but it will be somewhat time consuming for a beginner. Also, be careful with the area you are going to work in -But, You can Do IT!

What's the best dye to use. On another note, I want to dye a slipcover - but apartr from Rit, is there anything stronger that people have used with good results? Thanks.
