Drawn from Nature: The Plant Lithographs of Ellsworth Kelly

This is a little artwork inspiration for you and your home. We found this book in the home where we're staying (SKGR's mother's house in LA) and found ourselves paging through it last night after everyone had gone to sleep....

5-28-ell6.jpgDrawn from Nature: The Plant Lithographs of Ellsworth Kelly is a collection of lithographs that Ellsworth Kelly has done over his lifetime and which toured as a show in 2005, these are striking line drawings that show a part of Ellsworth Kelly that we did not know. We only knew his big color field paintings (This reminded us that our college art professor said that drawing was the basis of all art).

Part Matisse, part Mapplethorpe and part Georgia O'Keefe, Kelly's drawings are simple and haunting. It made us want to try drawing from life again - it looked so easy - but we know it isn't. It also made us want to A. find out if any of these lithographs are for sale and/or B. cut out a few of the prime pages, frame them and hang them in our home. But we'll have to buy our own copy to do that...

ps. these images are NOTHING like those in the book. This is only what we could find on the web.

I've had a full page ad for his show of plant drawings on my "inspiration board" since I ripped it out of some magazine (art forum, maybe?) many years ago. Wish they'd put a year as part of the date on these things!
