I just picked up Handmade Modern by Todd Oldham and Julia Szabo. I had been waiting for this book for a while because I saw a piece on it several years (only 1.5) ago in New York Magazine.
I think there is a great idea for a couch on p 24 which is a reworking of those shelving units in the link. It has book shelves in the front under the seating, closed storage in the back and open shelving on top.
(didn't I see the Bourollec Bros incorporate some sort of poles in their couch so you can hang their algues from it? I think this Oldham idea is far more functional.)
One complaint: the sewing for one of the cushions for the sofa seems to be missing in the book.
I want really large versions of the plaster moon rocks.






Sort of reminds me of the articles Todd does for readymade. Are they related?
dunno. Maybe the book and his general craftiness is why they picked him for readymade?
He made the living room furniture in Amy Sedaris' apt. that was featured in Nest sometime back.
I've noticed that major instructions are missing for the storage bench (pg. 93) the last step # 16: "With cushion face down place bench base on top of cushion base (h) and align carefully. Using 1 1/4" screws, attach the two parts together. Be sure that the..." Be sure what? Whoever the editor was must of been sniffing glue.
